 David V. Winkler / sculpture /

I’ve been playing with sculpture since about 2003. I started small and started building bigger and bigger.

I do not use the freehand technique that most other sculptors use. I gave a presentation of the theory behind my technique at BrickFest2005. Slightly more detail on the rendering step is discussed in a LugNet post. The use of PovRay for sculpture layout was discussed in a LugNet Post. I gave further details of the use of PovRay for color sculpture in another post. The use of Poser for sculpture was discussed in another LugNet Post.

My first sculpture was a cube. My second sculpture was a donut.

Things have progressed since then.

People in computer graphics tend to demostrate new algorithms using the Stanford Bunny. I am no exception.

I first displayed Lego sculpture at NWBrickCon2004.

A set of interlocked rings won Reserve Grand Champion at the Puyallup Fair September 2005 Lego contest.

I designed the trophies for the art category for NWBrickCon2005. I also designed the art trophies for NWBrickCon 2006.

After seeing the globes that some people had built, I decided to be thorough. I have posted plans for globes of radius 15 through radius 48. I also built a globe from a Lowell sphere.

Most of my sculptures have been proof of concept for building techniques.
I built an angel sculpture as proof that my software could handle full-size sculpture.
The Sitting Man was proof of concept of the Poser workflow.

Space Gallery in Seattle displayed two male nude sculptures and a mosaic during the month of June 2006. Then they were displayed at BrickFest2006

I built a pair of clothed men for BrickFest2007.
