Northwest BrickCon 2006 (NWBrickCon2006 NWBC2006) ended October 8, 2006. It was a great event.

I took some photos. Photos are posted to Brickshelf, available after moderation. Photos are full resolution, but have reduced quality for file size. Original photos available upon request. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/happyfrosh/nwbrickcon2006

A few hilights: Bill Volbrecht showed some of his models including his garden gnome, a penguin, taz, Mickey Mouse, an Easter Egg, and his pelican showing building details on the reverse side.

The castle display was huge and featured an enormous midevil battle. There was a castle style floating island. I was really impressed by this castle, which had amazing detail inside, outside, and around, including a shark attack in the moat. Favorites from previous years were back including the ogre attack, a herd of sheep and a castle themed Starbucks. One fantastic castle tower featured amazing use of the Harry Potter staircase elements.

The draft set was 4894 Mythical Creatures. There was a speed build, a master build, and a piece draft using this set. The master build was a timed creative event where people built a mecha using the pieces from this set. Some of the creations were serious, some were humorous, some were very polished.

A few people participated in a draft of the 7783 The Batcave: The Penguin and Mr. Freeze’s Invasion. There were many many cool pieces.

Todd’s skull won the award for best 3D art. A model of a Nintendo Wii was very elegant.

There was a micro moonbase. Other micro included a volcano eruption.

Bionicle was represented by two models including a dinosaur and a guard.

Dan showed his working cukoo clock, gravity powered by the weight of pods full of batteries.

Robotics showed a great ball contraption.

Train did an amazing display. It featured farmland, a container ship in port, Daniel’s Brokeback Mountain scene, and a great variety of trains. I was particularly impressed with a battery powered rail truck.

Town included a lot of Jeff’s buildings (and Daniel’s copy of Jeff’s building).

Mecha had an impressive Mecha Diorama. Lino did an amazing series of insectlike Mecha, my favorite was the wasp.

Steampunk had a good showing, including an enormous motorized craft.

Wayne won best in show with his totem pole. Wayne’s Smith Tower was featured on the public service announcement on local television.

Moonbase was HUGE. There were many small stories being told. The solar collector had no connectors but was perfect in every other way. Daniel’s There Goes the Neighborhood won 1st pace. The space police and prison won 2nd place. Bram’s earth memorial won 3rd place. Classic Space Moonbase was well represented. David V. Winkler’s Rhapsody in Blue tower was very tall.

Lino and others brought many cool cars, including Jarrod’s cool Technic 4wd vehicle with working winch.

Brickville DesignWorks brought an Egyptian Scene, fantasticly detailed.

The public hours had many visitors.

Then we cleaned up and went home.

It was an amazing weekend.
