But... but... but... OWK was doing _one_ thing - trying to run through the
barriers. If that is not a good time to use speed, what is?
So that is not a good, complete answer. Unless in some later movie OWK, in
retelling this story, smacks his forehead and mutters "I shoulda use Jedi
speed!".

Let's see... he books it really fast into the little room with Maul, who uses his souped up reflexes to chop him down, because Obi-Wan's natural reflexes are unable to let him block the strike.
