I will tell you what the book said.  The book noted that those barriers
are a security device designed to slow down and halt intruders getting
close to the basement area of the palace.  Apparently they tripped the
security system while on route on the bridge.

Ahh, cool -- that makes sense now!

Say, although DM seemed a bit surprised when he realized he was trapped in
the final containment field adjacent QGJ's, do you think there's any chance
that DM might've somehow known about these a little bit ahead of time and
planned it that way?--as a way to separate OWK from QGJ?  If he could figure
out a way to fight each separately, it would give him a much higher chance
of winning the battle.  Same with playing "stupid" in front of QGJ...

What I want to know is why OBK couldn't run fast enough to make it all the way
through the barriers.  Remember how fast he and QGJ moved when they were on the
ship and facing the destroyer droids?  Then they were moving at "ludicrous
speed"

(...) Yeah, how did they do that, anyway?! They couldn't've fooled the battle droids -- they're immune to Jedi mind tricks, right? --Todd (25 years ago, 25-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)
