Just for giggles, I'm also putting in my answers if a similar survey was done
for [Pirates] and <Trains>...

1. Do you have 375, the Yellow Castle?

No
[yes, I have 6285, no I don't have 398]
<no I don't have 4558, nor do I have any 4.5v or 12v trains>

2. Are you a male?

Yes

3. Are you over 18?

Yes, 36

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

6091
[6286]
<4565>

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

6090 (I had to check, I only paid $90 for my first 6080).
[6286 $170, this is a different 6286 from the one in Q.4...]
<4565, again a different one from the one in Q.4>

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

Not yet.
[not yet]
<yes, http://www.mindspring.com/~ffilz/Lego/train-creations.html >

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

Hmm, tough one. My favorite large castle would have to be 6080, but taking all
castle sets (that I have or would like to have) into account, I guess probably
6071 would be my favorite.

[6285]
<4531, see http://www.lugnet.com/trains/?n=4051 for why>

I'm gonna do what Frank did for [pirates] and <trains> too, but remove
all the > to make it a bit clearer..

1. Do you have 375, the Yellow Castle?

No but I may bid again in Giulio's auction, haven't decided.

[No I don't have 6285, my biggest pirate set is RBR, but it's been on
display for a year, so it's all dusty. the other 5 copies are either
still in boxes or parted out]

<I forget exactly how many copies of 4558 I have, either 4 or 5, I have
some 4.5 and some 12 but my holy grail set right now is 7725 which I
don't have. I DO have a rough 7740 and something like 3 7745s>

2. Are you a male?

Yes

3. Are you over 18?

Yes, 40

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

6090... I haven't gotten 6091 yet.
[I don't think I've ever paid more than 50 for a pirate set. I forget]
<4561, I just got about 13 of them at an average price in the high 60s>

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

6090 too I think
[Not sure, probably some RBR that I paid 49.99 for]
<4558 mint in a sealed mint box. This was the inaugural public auction
lot at Serious Collector and I paid 421 for it, I believe. Partly
because I felt it would have historic significance.>

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

Not yet... maybe never.
[not yet... maybe never.]
<yes, http://my.voyager.net/lar/lego.html >

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

Tough one indeed. I like 6080 but I gotta say I am partial to 6097 for
the parts it has. Ditto for 6093
[6285] (...me too, don't have one, want one mildly... actually I think I
do have one, it's just not in my hands yet)
<4549, see http://www.lugnet.com/trains/?n=4021 for why>

Last time I checked. ;)

3. Are you over 18?

Sadly, yes. But then again, I have a steady income, to buy more Lego!

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

Two Ninja Flying Fortresses from Michael Ulring, for a little over $90.
Individual castle, I bought a Night Lord's Castle from DYA for fifty-odd plus
$20 shipping.

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

Well, it's not Castle, but I paid $105 for Fort Legoredo.

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

working on it! I have a page for my smith, at www.xnet.com/~catena/smithy.html

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

Either the seige tower, or almost any of the forestman/dark forest sets (stupid
dark ages *mutter*). They seem better thought-out to me, the castle system that
was truly a system, with multiple sets that worked together.

Of course he doesn't. It would be sacrilege to say otherwise, and wise not to.
A Why's cracker might say that Larry is not the God of Trains, but a why's

I know you are a ESLer and I applaud you so I had to bring to your attention a
couple of spelling errors that made day:-)  Why's cracker = wisecracker, and
why's person = wise person;-D

Special note:  Larry may have followers called Larritarians [1], but that doesn't
make him a or the Train God.  Heck, he doesn't even build them wide enough!

And BTW, send a brick offering to Lar at his Ada address and receive a special

ever.

8 is a binary number, for people who can only think of two things at once.
6 is a repetitive number (1), for people who can only think of one thing at a
time.

(That said, I have no opinion whatsoever about the width question... I refuse
to stoop so low as to talk with trainiacs. ;)

And BTW, send a brick offering to Lar at his Ada address and receive a special

Meaning...?

Trains are a subtheme of Town according to some. And, if you vote right,
you might just see a resurgence of feudalism and a return of wooden
ships and iron men, so whos to say that Castle and Pirate aren't future
as well as past? :-)

Yes, two of them back at my parent's place.

2. Are you a male?

(Uhm, let's take a look...) Yes.

3. Are you over 18?

Yes.

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

I've never paid that much for a castle set yet.

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

I just bought the 4806 Axe Cart yesterday.  Think that must be the
most expensive castle set I have actually bought!  :-)

No, wait, I bought the Fright Nights accessory pack too, which was a
tad more expensive.

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

No, no castle ceations on my webpage yet.

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

I think that must be the yellow castle.  :-)

Er...part of it.  (various pieces have disappeared over the years.

2. Are you a male?
3. Are you over 18?

Yes & yes. (These are in my Geek Code if you know how to decode it...)

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

Leo's Castle.  (The only reason it wasn't the Bull's Attack was because I
bought that in beautiful tax-free Nashua, NH - so it's just under the $50
mark!)

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

Whoo....hmm...probably RKC or KLC since I bought them both at MSRP.
Usually the bidding on the auctions gets a bit rich.

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

A few things up on my LEGO page...

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

That I own?  I'm going to confuse everyone and say Majisto's Magical
Workshop.  I don't know why - I like the thing.  It's quirky.  The Dark
Forest Fortress is kinda cool too.

That I've seen? From pictures, at least, 6086.  Looks awesome.

Why confuse? I love that set. That was my first (normal-sized) castle set, and
I was very inspired by the hinge system they used there.

No confusion here... it's a great little set.  Happens to be one of 4 small
sets that has stayed assembled and survived the "shelf space stress test" for
more than a month - is still surviving it, actually.  The SSST is where it has
to look cooler than anything else I want to put on the shelf - given the size
of my collection, and the size of my shelf, it's not an easy test to pass. ;)

Wow, I didn't expect that many people to like the set.  I guess that's good
because my next creation to go up has some influences from the MMW.  I had to
sacrifice the MMW to make it, though.  8(  (At least it was for a good cause!)

Hmm...it's before 7...there may be some pics up tonight...

FTR, the other three sets to survive it are 6067 Guarded Inn, 6057 Sea Serpent,
and 6266 Cannon Cove. (not techinically castle I suppose, but hey, what can you
do with a set that cool?)

The new castle sets have failed across the board...most of them didn't even
make it to the shelf.

Mine has stood the test of time, it's been up on my shelf together for
almost 3 years now :) I can't make myself take it apart, I just dust
over it every week and put it right back on the shelf, adjust Majisto in
a new place and open or close it whichever comes to mind :)

1. Do you have 375, the Yellow Castle?

nope, too young, too little cash :(

2. Are you a male?

Yup

3. Are you over 18?

Yup

You say you're over 18, then you say your 15?! ;-)

Ahhhh, sorry for the confusion, I guess I have to watch what i write more
better :)

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

Gungan Sub, can't think of the number, too lazy to look it up

Last time I looked, that was a SW set. But, heck, if you think it counts as
castle... ;-)

Sure, but some people use the jedi torsos for peasants, and the brown cloak
and hood are great for castle characters (hint*hint)

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

Don't know

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

Nope, but I hope to have one soon.

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

HMMMM, that's a tough one, I'd have to say anyting from the Dragon Masters :)

hey Shiri, it looks like we're the only people under 18 here (Bram turns 18 • in
a month, he doesn't count :) How old are you, I'm 15, but will be 16 in June.
Oh, and when i get my webpage up and running, we'll show all these oldtimers
how to build! You with me?

Funny, I'm turning 16 in June too... June 25th to be exact.
Are you planning on joining CW? Maybe we can combine our (small) collections
and show the world that JrFOLs are worth as much as AFOLs!

"Which one means yes?"

YAY (that means yes) Ha, I'm older than you mine's on the 4th, so that makes
you the youngest person out here in .castle. You're a minority - there's only
2 females here, and one is you, and there's only 2 under 18, and one is you!
As soon as I get a scanner I'm scanning Alec my Sigfig and sending him over to
Pawel.
Uhhh, my collections not that small, even though most of it isn't castle, I
can still fill 2 of those Tupperwear storage containers (they're about 1 foot
by 2 feet, and 1.5 feet deep. It's small by comparison to some people out
there, but I'm pretty pleased with it :)
But, yes I would like to show the world just how much they take the JrAFOLs of
.castle for granted!

OK, here's a survey for lugnet.castle. Please reply to this letter...

1. Do you have 375, the Yellow Castle?
No, just a few knights and tall yellow slopes.

2. Are you a male?
No

3. Are you over 18?
Yes

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?
6077, Forestmen's River Fortress, just barely

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?
I think the FRF might have been it for an individual set... I have lots of
Castle but I've managed to buy it in mixed boxlots, much cheaper.

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?
No... one of these days though.

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?
Either the FRF or 6081 King's Mountain Fortress.  Decisions, decisions...

1. Do you have 375, the Yellow Castle?

Nope, but within the next month or two I may have 2 of them!

2. Are you a male?

Yep!

3. Are you over 18?

Yep!

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

Well, the last one I bought *retail* was King Leo's Castle (6091), but I also
bought a 2nd King's Mountain Fortress (6081) in an auction... And then I also
bought Dark Forest Fortress (#?) more recently, but I haven't recieved it
yet... So one of those 3, depending on how you interpret the question :)

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

Guarded Inn (6067)... I paid about... $150 I think? And to top it off the guy
who sold it to me accidentally included the WHITE princess hat instead of the
red one! (But I'm not complaining!)

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

Well, yes and no... when I've got enough creations, pictures, and the time, I
plan to finalize my very hastily put together Lego pages... so yes I HAVE
webpages, but nothing is static at the moment-- it's all due to change

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

That's a toughie... I'd have to go with either King's Castle (6080) or
Guarded Inn (6067). But it's really tough to judge...

Can't remember. In the Netherlands most larger sized sets are over $50. And as
I bought most of my castle set through Ebay auctions a lot of them were over
$50.
5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)? • 6067 Guarded Inn

I like most castle sets (ninja and fright knight not so much). I like 6060

1. Yup (God bless my parents for that one!)
2. Yup
3. Yup (I'm currently 22)
4. I don't know if I, personally, have ever paid more than $50 for a castle
set.  I usually buy stuff on deep clearance.  My parents bought me a few, back
in the day, but I'm not sure if that counts.
5. 6093 (again, much clearance pricing)
6. I do, but it's ancient and not recently updated

7. The Black Falcon's Fortress (don't have) or The Guarded Inn (do have).  I'm

I've never paid that much for castle sets. I have several worth that

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

6079 Dark Forest Fortress, at about $45 a few months ago  (hoping I get
lots of money soon so I can get another one.  I like that set, even the
wacky baseplate)

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

Not yet.  (got myself an account on BriskShelf.. just need to develop

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

hmm.. I'd have to say 6074 Black Falcon's Fortress, the first big castle
set my parents bought for me,
although 6066 Camouflaged Outpost is a close second and was probably my
favorite as a kid.

Hi everyone!

I have all the survey entries processed. I'll give people another day. If you
haven't answered yet, here's your chance! Delurk (if you're lurkers)!

Notes on the processing:
-If people said they don't have a web page yet, I marked that as no. OTOH, if
they said the site was just getting started, not updated, etc., I marked a yes.
-If people said they liked more than one set, I wrote all of them.
-many people didn't know whether 6091 was cheaper or more expensive than 6090.
I said 6090 was more expensive in such cases, but I'm not sure this is right
anymore. If anyone has proof of the opposite, LMK.

OK, survey results will come tomorrow or Wednesday!

It's set 6086-- its name got changed somewhere in the middle of its
production run, possibly due to pressure from TSR. Check

http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=6086

It lists it as Black Knight's Castle, but the catalog graphic says Dungeon
Master's Castle.

  1. Do you have 375, the Yellow Castle?

No, but I'm keeping an eye out for one.

  2. Are you a male?

Yes.

  3. Are you over 18?

Age 43

  4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

Unsure. Its time to tell my story.  I have two teenage sons, one in college and
one in high
school.  They love LEGO but are into other things currently, so I'm holding
their lego
under protective custody.  They, however, have many friends that know I play...
er
build... with LEGO and I've been able to buy many, many sets from them at very
reasonable prices.  I usually buy whole collections from them and the price per
set comes
out well below the $50.00 mark. ( 4-6085, 3-6086, 3-6081, 3-6074, 2-6080,
3-6066,
3-6077, 3-6071, have found their way to me via this route).

  5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

6040 Blacksmith's Shop on ebay for $33.00

  6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

No.  I'm a computer novice.

  7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

6041 Armour Shop.  It has a certain mystique.

8. Pitch forks:  Maybe 6 or 7.
9. Favorite Sub Theme: Black Falcons
10. The two Knights in 683 as someone previously posted.

I love that set.  It was definitely my favorite when it first came out.  I
always wanted the Blacksmith Shop as a companion, but I've never gotten one.

Hehe, my 'army' is barely 20 minifigs. I do have many custom-built minifigs
though, each of which is an individual character.

I'm going to need to count my castle theme minifigs soon. I just counted
my pirate theme minifigs the other day and came close to 1000, I bet I
have a similar number of castle minifigs.

This is a final call.
All boarding flight 6090, please report to gate 375.

(Just Kidding...)

Now for real. Survey results ARE ready this time (as they were last time ;)
and waiting to be published...
So if you still want to answer, speak now or forever hold your speech.

1. Do you have 375, the Yellow Castle?

Nope.

2. Are you a male?

Yeah.

3. Are you over 18?

Yeah.

4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?

Hmm... I can't remember! <g> I think it was probably either:

a.) 6090,
b.) 6080,
c.) 6085, or
d.) 6086

I haven't gotten my hands on any 6091's yet, so maybe that set will be the
most expensive.

5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?

See the above question; I'm not really sure.

6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?

Well, I have built one, but when it comes to uploading, FTPing, HTMLing,
etc., I'm not the most adroit fella' around... Plus time is limited in the
wonderful world of DBR :-)

(I guess that means: "someday")

7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

Definitely a tie between 6059 and 6081. I own several (5) 6059's, and two
6081's. I had them all joined in a big circle once... Their (the Crusaders')
army was invincible for a time ;-)

There's also a soft spot for 6077 residing on me, I think...

I saw the survey results and want to jump on the wagon
(or is a crusader's cart? maybe it's a palanquin...)

1. Do you have 375, the Yellow Castle?
2. Are you a male?
3. Are you over 18?
4. What is the last castle set you paid over $50 for?
5. What's the castle set you paid the most for (ever)?
6. Do you have a webpage of your castle creations?
7. What is your favorite castle set ever?

1. yes
2. yes
3. yes
4. 375
5. 375
6. no
7. 383

hmm..

my castle years were 1979-1981, so, not a lot of variety in my answers.
I recently paid more than $50 for a second 375 to round out my collection. The
surprise was that it included 2 unadvertised 677's! the Exxon gas station too--
what the heck is this Exxon sign doing in my new castle? I love mystery boxes.
