  Gonk?

Anyone made a Gonk yet out of LEGO? --Todd (25 years ago, 31-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

What? (25 years ago, 31-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Gonk is an EG-6 power droid. He's the one in the sandcrawler in Ep4 who walks across the floor saying "Gonk...Gonk..." He looks like a giant rectangular car battery with legs. There are two EG-6's in the background in Watto's store in Ep1 too. (...) (25 years ago, 31-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Does it quack? (25 years ago, 1-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Okay, I got it...

I know what you're talking about, Todd. Actually, that's an easy one. Try building something like a Destroyer Droid out of Legos (easier than it seems). (25 years ago, 1-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) You forgot the best one. When he got his feet fried in Jaba's Droid Torture Chamber. By the way the reason that this caused Gonk pain is because the heat caused coolant to be discharged and started him overheating. Eric (...) (25 years ago, 1-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Do you mean the walking trashcans? Jeff (25 years ago, 1-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Not yet. Haven't made a scene yet where I would need one, though it's a great idea. That would be a great droid to put into a Sandcrawler set. -Tom McD. when replying, please torture the spamcake. (25 years ago, 1-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

On Mon, 31 May 1999 03:56:13 GMT, Todd Lehman uttered the following profundities... (...) Kindly explain what a gonk is! I don't recollect that from any of the films or books! (25 years ago, 1-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

On Mon, 31 May 1999 16:45:59 GMT, Todd Lehman uttered the following profundities... (...) I remember I had an action figure of that one! I would have thought something similar, but it would need to be two bricks high, 3-studs-wide. And if you still (...) (25 years ago, 1-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Ahh! Excellent! --Todd (25 years ago, 1-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Well Here you go. I built one. I have posted a page with an LDraw Pic as well as some real pics including R2-D2 for scale. I have not linked this to my page yet but you can get to it by going to the following URL... (URL) I hope you all like (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) I like it. Simple but neat. IIRC, didn't this guy have overlapping feet, sort of like some of those wind-up toy animals? pax, (25 years ago, 2-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk? Off-Topic

This is slightly off-topic ... actually, completely off-LEGO ... *sigh* :) I don't know whether or not to take credit for this, but I figure I may as well get my name in the pipeline. Although I was not the original prophet of Gonk, I like to deem (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) I always thought the EG-6's looked like Huey, Dewie and Louie from _Silent Running_. OK, just dug up some SR info. I guess there isn't that much resemblance. (URL). I've got to find SR on video somewhere. I don't think I've seen it since (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

Going off topic... Silent Running is one of my favorite SciFi movies. It still shows up on the SciFi and other cable channels from time to time. Great Movie... $12.99 on VHS at www.reel.com and www.amazon.com no Lego $ 9.05 on VHS at (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Excellent! He looks odd in the orthographic LDraw version, but definitely "comes to life" in the photos! :) I especially like the way you used plates fore and aft of his legs to make them look shorter. Is he tilted back a bit because he's 2x4 (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) The 2x4 Gonk is a bit front heavy hence the tilt. I decided to make a 2x3 version. I was considering it anyway but your suggestion pushed me to it. I do like it just as well if not better. I used a different color scheme and took some pictures (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) ??? (...) How about Qui-Gonk Jinn :) Ryan "Build or build not. There is no try." - Lego Master Yoda (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) I like it although I think the new Gonk is going to be Gonk I have decided I like him better. The old Gonk (the dkGray one) I think will be either Melted down or sent to the Spice Mines of Kessel. :) Eric (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) What? No smashing into who knows what? I though that would be the _most likely_ fate of a lego droid... James (URL) (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Good One! I think that might be best. The reclemation process would be much easier. Plus I would be able to reuse the pieces that way!!! :) Eric (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) I love it! I don't think he needs a different name, though, does he? -- Your 2x3 Gonk is much closer to the "real" Gonk than your 2x4 Gonk is? According to the book droids book[1], Gonk's legs are equidistant from his front & back. (But the (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Okay, I got it...

(...) What if you're (like me) only working from pictures, and don't have a physical representation to hold. And try doing it without *real* bricks (i.e. In a CAD program). Let's see what *you've* got.... ;) (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

Love the Gonk. Thanks for the directions. I always enjoyed making robots when I was a kid. If a part couldn't be used for anything else (airplane fin, jetski handlebars, metal detector) it could always be used in a robot. (...) elegant (...) to (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Hey, do we have that message archived from our own LUGNETter who has (and may be) the original story of the "Gonk" name? If it's any consolation, it now appears to have official Lucasfilm sanction: The recent Star Wars toys have such a droid (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Markus, Thanks a lot. Nothing like an 8 month old thread resurfacing :-). I assume you found one of my Gonk pages that liked back to my anouncement about him and then you posted. For those of you that might be interested the GeoCities Page (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

As far as I know, Gonk's name came from the RASSM (rec.arts.scifi.starwars.misc) ng. For those of you who aren't RASSM'ers (AKA rats, depending on personal preference), you're missing out on a lot of (sometimes) interesting (sometimes) wacky (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

(...) Thanks for the inspiration, I hadn't thought about the jetski handlebar piece. I'm now building 'bots with serious eyebrow problems. My favorite: take the Gasgano 'fig. Remove the head. Stick on a handlebar-on-a-clip. Turn two of the arms (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

<Star Wars Freak hat> It's called "Gonk" because that's a sort of onomatopoetic version of the noise that one of these power droids makes whilst sitting in the jawa's landcrawler in Episode IV. -Cheese </Star Wars Freak hat> (...) (24 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Gonk?

Eric, Whoop, I paid no attention to how old the thread was. I just saw the page that said, "Tell me how you like it on Lugnet" and I did. But I'm glad I could resurrect it. (...) Markus (...) if (...) (24 years ago, 17-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)
