A List and Description of Important Caeric Legendary/Historic Figures
  • Legendary Caerany was in c.400 and ended in c.500. This was the time of the first Qan, Adain, through the third Qan Tarkhan. After this Caerany devolved into civil war which eventually rendered the melkyates, warring princedoms that fought eachother, none strong enough to consolidate power. It was into this that the Lonsans invaded in the 850’s.

Adain : The first Qan, son of the Lion Clan (then undivided). He was the first to unite the Caeric tribes, through conquest and diplomacy.

Guyuk : Adain’s general, founder of the Falcon Clan and the Golden Falcon Family. Guyuk died in Adain’s defence.

Kiang : A southern melkya, of the Grey Wolf Clan. Kiang was the last melkya to recognize Adain as Qan, but after Guyuk’s death, became his right hand man. Kiang is the most mythical of the legendary figures, because he is claimed by present day Grey Wolves, but according to legend lived near Faernney in the south (and so is claimed by Faerns who live there).

Kunde : Guyuk’s son, the 2nd melkya of the Falcon Clan, heir of the Golden Falcon. Kunde built the Tor in Glen Caer named for him, and married the daughter of the Wolf Clan melkya.

Tainne : Daughter of the farmer Caiba, who was kidnapped by Durg and rescued by the combined efforts of Adain, Guyuk, and Kiang. It was in her defence that Guyuk died, and so Tainne agreed to consider marrying Kunde, which she did. Their marriage produced Aodhan. Tainne is seen as the epitomy of the Caeric woman, strong and loyal.

Nuada : Adain’s first son, and the second Qan. Nuada was not as brave as his father, but very wise. He made Caerany, especialy Coplton, into a place of learning and peace.

Tarkhan : Nuada’s nephew, son of Nuada’s younger brother Tarku. Tarkhan was neither wise nor brave. Tarkhan demanded the melkyas come and kiss his feet, to which Aodhan, the melkya of the Falcons (Kunde’s son), denounced Tarkhan. The squabble turned into a civil war, and is the first step in the division between the Shivans and Abhavans. Historian often argue whether Tarkhan was ever really Qan, citing evidence that the qurlitay that proclaimed him Qan did not represent all melkyas, and therefore void.

Aodhan : Kunde’s son, heir to the Falcon Clan. Aodhan resisted Qan Tarkhan’s attempts to belittle the melkyas, and led to a civil war.

Sidheyn and Abhayn : The original tribes resulting from the civil war between Tarkhan and Aodhan. The name means “hill people” and “river people” respectively, because Glen Caer is in the hills, Coplton alongside the river. These eventually turned into the Shivans and Abhavans.
