  April 30th, 2011 SMART meeting

We had a great meeting a week an a half ago, and saw a lot of really cool drawing robots! The next SMART meeting will be April 30th, at 2pm. The mini-challenge we voted on was to do "chimney climbing". Build a robot that can climb up the inside of a (...) (13 years ago, 6-Apr-11, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Re: February 26th, 2011 SMART meeting

Just a reminder: we'll have our next SMART meeting in two weeks. The mini-challenge is to build a plotting robot of some sort. If it can draw, color, paint or even just make a pretty line on some sort of surface, it counts! See you in two weeks! -- (...) (13 years ago, 12-Mar-11, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Re: February 26th, 2011 SMART meeting

We had a nice SMART meeting today, though because of the weather, not too many people showed up. Nevertheless, there were a few very interesting 'tracking' robots. Great job, everyone! For next month (March 26th) we voted on building a "Plotting (...) (13 years ago, 27-Feb-11, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  February 26th, 2011 SMART meeting

Our last SMART meeting went really well! There were lots of really good robots that people built on the spot to solve the task presented! In fact, I had a couple of people comment that they would like to do something like this again on a more (...) (13 years ago, 16-Feb-11, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Re: January 29th, 2011 SMART meeting

Last reminder about tomorrow's SMART meeting. The meeting will start at 2pm in the Michelangelo room at Digipen (located at 9931 Willows Road in Redmond). After you go through the lobby, go down the right hallway, and the room is on the left, (...) (13 years ago, 29-Jan-11, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Motors comparison page updated

(...) No, purely resistive. Although it does have a "boot up" time, I think it's just due to heating up the element. I'm not completely sure if the element will respond better to a "dimmer" type set-up (running it at less than normal voltage) or a (...)   Re: January 29th, 2011 SMART meeting

(...) That sounds like a great plan though we did actually pick a mini-challenge at the last meeting. I should have posted something about it but I guess I never got around to it. My bad. The proposed mini-challenge was to make a non-traditional (...) (13 years ago, 14-Jan-11, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  January 29th, 2011 SMART meeting

In just over two weeks we'll have our next SMART meeting. We'll meet at the new DigiPen building, from 2pm to 5pm. As no mini-challenge was posted, we'll try a very low-key variation on BrickHeap Wars for this meeting. It will be an individual (or (...) (13 years ago, 14-Jan-11, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Motors comparison page updated

(...) Interesting thread, even if a bit off topic of LEGO motors. I'm not an expert on power circuits, but a google search turned up this web site with a number of interesting power supply circuits (there is a search option).   Re: Motors comparison page updated

(...) Good thing, the load is not inductive. (...) OK, with a 1 second cycle time, and pure on/off, it is simpler. All you need is a solid state relay. (...) Looks like some people do: (URL) and worse, most of these dimmers work by dissipating and (...) (13 years ago, 13-Jan-11, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Motors comparison page updated

(...) I've been operating outside my personal SOA for years now :) (...) It's actually not a motor - it's a small electric hot water heater element. When plugged in it produces 1300W, but if I want less than that I need to figure out some way to (...) (13 years ago, 13-Jan-11, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Motors comparison page updated

Hi Brian, (...) I was surprised too. I suspect a relatively high internal resistance of the windings, rather than mechanical friction, as the source of losses. No, (shame on me!) I didn't checked yet with an ohmmeter. (...) This is clearly outside (...) (13 years ago, 13-Jan-11, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: November 20th SMART meeting

I just wanted to remind everyone about our next SMART meeting in two weeks (Saturday, November 20th, 2pm). We'll be meeting at the new DigiPen facilities, in the Michelangelo auditorium. The address is 9931 Willows Road, in Redmond. Here's a map: (...) (14 years ago, 8-Nov-10, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  November 20th SMART meeting

For the November SMART meeting (at the new Digipen location) bring whatever robot(s) you happen to be working on! Our mini-challenge will be to build a robot that can balance on a teeter totter. You can design whatever sort of teeter totter you like (...) (14 years ago, 20-Oct-10, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: BrickCon 2010 awards

(...) Any video or pictures around? I love what you folks have done with the crate contraption, and wish I could see it in person... but if not, I'd still love to see it as much as possible :). (...) Cool... (...) Shooting what? Spheres, or bullets? (...) (14 years ago, 15-Oct-10, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  BrickCon 2010 awards

What an awesome robotics display we had at BrickCon this year! I really wanted to thank Mark Kenworthy for putting together an awesome Crate Contraption! These are very difficult to put together, and Mark did this one entirely himself! It was a (...) (14 years ago, 14-Oct-10, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

SMART meeting this Saturday, September 25, 2-5pm

I just got confirmation that we will be able to use the new Michelangelo auditorium in the *new* DigiPen facilities for our meetings this year, starting with this Saturday's meeting. The meeting starts at 2pm, and goes to 5pm. Please note the new (...) (14 years ago, 23-Sep-10, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Robot Competition at BrickCon 2010

This year's robot competition at BrickCon will be a racing competition. Build and program a robot able to race around an irregularly shaped gradient track while avoiding obstacles on the track. The track is approximately two feet wide, with black in (...) (14 years ago, 16-Sep-10, to lugnet.events.nwbrickcon, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.org.us.smart, lugnet.events, lugnet.announce)

  Register for BrickCon

At the build session on the weekend I was reminded that I hadn't mentioned where to register for BrickCon. If you plan on attending the entire convention (not just the visitors exhibition on Saturday and Sunday) you should register before September (...) (14 years ago, 1-Sep-10, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Re: Build session on August 28th for BrickCon 2010

Here's a quick reminder about the build session this Saturday at the Bellevue Library in room 3 starting at 2pm. Besides just a time to work on your robots, ask questions, etc, I will be presenting an idea for a racing robot competition at BrickCon. (...) (14 years ago, 24-Aug-10, to lugnet.org.us.smart)
