I feel helpless and shocked as I hear of the horrors today.

I'm speechless...  my tears and sympathy for the huge many involved.

I see that some of us have begun to use this message site for communications
and news related to the tragedies. I am fully supportive of this for as long as
it can help.

Thanks Suz, I think we figured it was ok, but it's good to know.

Just giving some perspective as how this is affecting our country:

In Chicago most major buildings have closed as a precaution. (Sears Tower,
Hancock Building and many more.)

Many malls and universities have also closed for the day, but not the
elementary or high schools.

Flipping thru the channels looking for as much info as possible, many stations
have stopped programming and just have a note on the screen saying their hearts
and prayers are with the victims and their families. (QVC, Home & Garden, UPN
are just a few.)

It's going to be very freaky when the planes are allowed back in the air. I
live about 40 miles NW of O'Hare, the planes are on descent when they go over
our house. It will take some restraint not to freak out about it.

Here at Rice University King Abdullah of Jordan was scheduled to speak tomorrow
but that has been cancelled.  NASA has been closed and, as I understand, much of
our downtown (Houston) has been evacuated.

Can anyone tell me if Sid Mark Dinsay is ok? He's in New York...

Sid works at City Hall (NYC), about a mile away from WTC. That's all I know.

I understand the Mayor (Giuliani) who is now on TV was not at City Hall but
at WTC Plaza. The Mayor went across the street to 75 Barclay, where he and
his staff were trapped by falling debris for 20 minutes before escaping
through the basement exits.

The irony is that the Mayor's hardened emergency command bunker was in the WTC.

My email is not getting out to anybody...

Suz, if anyone posts phone numbers or e-mail addresses here for us to relay,
can you cancel the posts to hide the info later?

Thanks,

I can cancel any post after receiving an e-mail from the poster
requesting the specific message be canceled. Keep in mind that some
people receive LUGNET posts via e-mail and newsreader.

Holding up ok here. I had to shut off TV and computer for a while. I
will never ever forget watching each of those towers collapse on live
TV. I shudder to imagine the severity of gruesome sights on scene.

For those looking for news with all of the regular news sites under a huge load
you can try (as strange as it sounds) http://www.espn.com/ They are a sports
news organization but they have been covering this story for a while now.

I am also shocked when I saw the horrible news this afternoon on the german TV.
I feel very bad, regarding the thousands of people how have suffered from that
terroristic act and for the future of our world wide piece and freedom ...

It's a shame that the whole world is faced with that kind of stupid actions. It
really pushes me back into reality: There is not only the friendly world wide
LEGO community - there is also that terrible world outside.

(Hope I found the right words for a day, where noone will find the right words
...)

Everyone, I am in utter shock, I would cry but I have a job to do. We here
at Voicestream are doing everything we can to bolster our network to allow
calls to go thru. This is aweful. I count my lucky stars I came home
yesterday. My flight flew past the Manhatten skyline last night. Now it is
gone. I can't belive this. The mood is somber here. I'm crying inside.

I was always worried about this sort of thing happening. I know how scary it
is to fly let alone die aboard. Sorry, I gotta change that thought.

Aren't the offices of Lego Direct in what was the WTC?

Oh man, I just can't belive this. I was so happy after this meeting at Lugola.
I thought nothing could bring me down form the high I was riding. Except this.

I gotta pull myself together. I once saw lightning hit the buildings, such
memories, and now this.
This is aweful.

Why!

LEGO Direct's offices are about a mile North of the Trade Center.  I sent a
note to Jake McKee this morning, he replied "We are fine".  I wish more
people could say that today...
