| The Merchant Guilds Introduction The Merchant Guilds of the town are the main sources of (economical) power. Depending on the wares you manufacture and sell, you will have to apply to the corresponding guild. The guilds provide for the shops, and thats why many shops dont have living quarters. Each guild has taken an animal as their symbol, and each shop has a shield with this symbol hanging on the storefront in order to show their allegiance to their guild. Even non-merchants have taken this idea and created their own guild, like the Guild of the Lion which consists mainly of military personnel, and the Guild of Worship which represents the religious caste. The Guild of the Bat The Guild of the Bat is composed of all the people who perform scientifical studies. Its members consist of alchemists, astrologers, astronomers, cartographers and scientists. Their shops sell potions, maps, and modern inventions. While the alchemists can perform some pretty impressive pseudo-magical feats, real magic is the expertise of the Guild of the Dragon. The Guild is maintained by a family of nobles who find the scientific research very important. It is considered a way of advancing their culture by seeking answers to the many questions that there are. But thats not the main motivation of the noble family; one of their members was attacked by a vampire a couple of decades ago, which resulted in the family becoming a small vampire clan. They are not happy about the situation, and decided that a cure should be found to rid them of their vampiric condition. Their main researcher, Aurum the Alchemist has booked some successes by finding a poor artificial substitute for blood, so that the need to kill people for blood has somewhat been decreased.
