The Idea

I first had the idea the universe of RIFT in June of 2003 when I was sitting at my table staring blankly at my bricks waiting for an idea to hit me.

POW!

Suddenly I had this vision of a minifig falling through a hole in the stars (hense the logo). I think that image was inspired by a scene in Star Trek: Insurection and the intro for the game MYST. I did nothing for a month or two, but that image of that fig stuck.

The universe of RIFT came back on to the drawing board when I got some birthday money from my granparents. I soon went to a KB Toys and came out with some great deals on several sets. One of the sets, Ogel Shark Sub, included four dark gray click hinge arms everyone labeled ‘useless’. While fooling around with this ‘useless’ parts, I suddenly created GP R.O.C.K. Bot, which was soon followed by GP S.E.A. Bot and GP A.I.R. Bot.

RIFT was born.
