Glen Caer

The city, although much smaller than Coplton, is the second major city in Caerany. If Coplton is the political capital, Glen Caer is the spiritual center of Caeric life. All Caers hold Glen Caer sacred, especially because it houses the Temple of the Eternal Flame, the holiest site for Caers. Even the name, Glen Caer, signifies its importance (although the name is derived from the entire village being fortified by a cairn) as being a place for all Caers, even though Glen Caer is controlled and run by the Shivans.

Buildings

Tor Kunde

Tor Kunde is the ancestral tower of the Golden Falcon Clan (House Kundecek, meaning son of Kunde). In Shivan legend, Qan Adain blessed his greatest warrior Guyuk, calling his men ‘Falcons’ because of their bravery and Guyuk ‘Golden’ because of his loyalty. Guyuk’s son, Kunde, was equally brave and loyal to Adain, and Adain helped Kunde build a great tower to defend the Eternal Flame. The tower, and the house, were to be named for Kunde. The tower is the only remaining architectural structure from the Adaini period.

The Temple of the Eternal Flame and Monastery

The Miracle of the Eternal Flame has enchanted both scholars and laymen alike. The two hills of Glen Caer sit above a natural gas reserve, which a small bit leaks through at the base of the eastern hill. Long ago, before men even remember, the gas caught fire and has been burning ever since. The flame is thought to be a gift from Adala (God), and so a temple has been erected around it and a colony of monks live there to tend it and pray. The Eternal Flame is the holiest site for not only Caers, but Olmans and Nuths as well (other peoples who live to the south).

Keir’s Blacksmithy

Keir was once the apprentice to Rikly, who works in Coplton. Rikly is believed to be the best blacksmithy in the country, and Keir is almost as good. Keir prefers Glen Caer to the hussle and bussle of Coplton, and especially because of the lack of ‘money-ism’ as he calls it, where everything has a price and everything bought and sold. Keir prefers to work for his friends rather than for profit, but Glen Caer is slowly growing and may soon look more like Coplton.

Gareth’s Carpentry

Carpentry is something that everyone needs, and with the lack of a large carpentry shop in Coplton, Gareth has become fairly well to do.

Seren’s Glassworks

Glass bottles and other glass objects are very important, not just for Glen Caer but for all Caerany. Seren’s main competition comes from glassworks in Mingxu, but Seren is still respected for her skill and the beauty of her bottles. It was Seren who made the large glass walls for the Minola Bank.

Rain Llyra’s Bakery

The Llyra family is slowly growing in prestige. Headed by the twin sisters Rain and Maeve, the Llyras own the bakeries in Coplton, Glen Caer, and Glen Daerndd and are looking into expanding in Oelia. Also Rain and Maeve are accomplished warriors and notable members of the Lion Clan, also helping the families’ growing prestige.

Murphy-Grehan Farm

The Farm, a cooperation between the Murphy and Grehan families, produces much of the food through out Copecaer. It has been the Murphy-Grehan alliance that has kept Minola from opening a branch in Glen Caer, and they also serve as Jorchi’s main non-militant backing.
