The Rebellion of 879

In Trion of 879 a protest in Coplton began against the announcement of Lonsan plans to build a castle on Cairn Qaatore, the ancient seat of the Qan. The Lonsans attempted to break up the protestors, only to provoke a riot. Popular leader Axieuliang of the Grey Wolf Clan arrived the next day, and the riots turned into organized rebellion. The Lonsan camps were burned, and Lonsan soldiers as well as civilians were killed. Axieuliang effectively took control of central Copecaer.

By Quady word had reached Emporer Paul II, who was eager to make the Caers into an example (after taking ten years to put down a Cueti revolt).

In Siexen Paul had gathered his armies, the Northern Army stationed in Outpost, and the Uryky Garrison in northern Olmany. The NA attacked Coplton directly, while the Uryky Garrison approached along the Faern Mountains, suprising the Caers on their left flank. The Caers were crushed and the Lonsans began a counter rampage, killing Caers indiscriminantly.

The chaos lasted until Ochone, when local leader Dokeste Aniez gained control of the Caers and stopped their resistance, at the same time contacted the Lonsans directly and got them to stop the rampage. Many saw this as capitulating to the Lonsans, but if they didn’t it is quite possible the Lonsan rampage could have degenerated into genocide.

The Lonsan general was unwilling to allow the Abhavan Caers to select a new melkya (the old one had been killed), but Dokeste contacted Paul directly and convinved him that the Caers would be more unruly without a melkya. So a tribal jirga was held, and Dokeste was made melkya. This was seen as a victory for the Caers inspite of losing the war.
