Lament on trends

Trends, fashions, etcetera Written 06-19-04 By M. Aaron Hein.

Simply put, this is an attack on common fashions. I’ve decided to take the liberty to rile common abstractions which thrive for a short period and die hard, smitten amongst the ashes of the latest trend which anyone from elitist celebrities to street level gurus rave about.

how now, to describe
something epidemic, too able to see
to abstract,
things that are complete fallacy

what everyone’s talking ‘bout on the broadway
that will be dead tomorrow or next week
why don’t we discuss things that are important
instead of what’s so easy to speak

here’s a suggestion
why don’t we take a stroll away
from all this buzz and rave
and maybe find outselves a way
to see the truth, focus our eyes
look for the horizon, and not some detour
to the wayside

it’s just these stories, going on and on
same problem, different people, and we’re
completely hooked to respond
‘I’m inspired’, it’s what we always say
after we turn our eyes to another place
hoping for that same buzz, that fix
which we’ll hear tomorrow on the way

to our destination

or

tricked imagination

now, you never know, to reason to ask why,
we stand fixated, unable to turn, to wry
ourselves from
these things that live and die on the moment
why can’t we see,
what’s so close, yet so far
from philosophical reach

what about longetivity, is it a concept forgotten
or simply trendy to regard it as ill-begotten?
