Todd’s Chess Sets

Here are a couple virtual chess sets modeled in LEdit & LDraw, then proofed with LDLITE, and finally rendered with POV-Ray using Lars Hassing’s awesome L3P converter. Click on the thumbnails to see full-size images.

Note: Since the LEGO Company does not produce any board-game sets, the models shown below are entirely unofficial. However, they do depict actual interlocking LEGO® elements.

1x1 Playing Pieces

These itty bitty chess pieces are 1 standard brick width in diameter and range from 1-1/3 to 4 bricks tall. The game board is composed of 2x2 plates, but all of the game pieces fit perfectly between the studs because the bottoms are round.

This is my favorite of the two images.

2x2 Playing Pieces

These more typically sized chess pieces are approximately 2 standard bricks in diameter and range from 3 to 8-1/3 bricks tall. The game borad is composed of 4x4 plates.

I’m not sure that I really like the racing stripes on the rooks, bishops, knights, and queens, but I do really like the way the kings’ crowns turned out.
