I can speak for the NGLTCs first show when it was just me. I only had four
tables set up in a "C" formation. I used the table specs that the PNLTC have
described on thier site (http:\\www.pnltc.org). I only had one loop that
actually crossed back over itself and it looked like two tracks. So I actually
ran two trains on it at a time to keep up the illusion.
As I did more shows and more people joined the group I was able to double the
tables and create a much larger layout. Most of the time we run the layout
from the outside, its much more fun since you get to talk with the crowd and
such. And being 6'5" allows me to reach over to the inside with out a lot of
problems. I did create the "water" area of the layout so that it will lift out
and allow easy accees to the center of the layout, avoiding all the crawling
on the floor to get in there.
The tables cost me about $30 a piece to make (and even now that I have changed
all my tables over to using folding banguet table legs they're still around
$30 a table)
I really don't think you need much at all to do a show, start off small and
get your feet wet, or jump in big like WAMALUG did. I guess it depends on the
size of your group. Anyway you do it, it's a blast for sure.
