4559 works with 7835?

Hi I'm new to both this newsgroup and Lego train.  Recently I bought a 4559
train and I have an old 7835 level crossing.  I'm just wondering if they
work with each other and if not, how can I work ith the 7835 set so that the
rail will actually work with the 9V train.

ps:  does anyone have a 3225 set for sale and how much ?

7835 is 12V. The track is not compatible since it has plastic outer
rails. To use it, buy a box of straight track (4515?) and rebuild it
using 9V track. Since this crossing is manually operated, you'll be all
set.

Or, buy a new one and sell the 7835. I'd buy it. I'm not "crossing
complete" yet. 146 is very cool, it does not use a baseplate!  But I
think 4539 is my favorite. (although in the box picture, the attendant
is gonna get clipped by the train if he doesn't move)

The 7834 level crossing,(if it's automatic, I can't tell) will be much
much harder to convert, because automatic crossings depend on some sort
of sensing of the train, and if that sensing is electronic, it may well
be incompatible with the 9V track.

I'm assuming that 7834 is automatic, because it's not called *MANUAL*
level crossing the way 7835 is. Does anyone know for sure?

Shop at Home has them. I have not seen them in stores in the US. I want
to say 66 bucks.
Are you in the US? if so, call S@H. If not, get a US friend to get it
for you if you're not somewhere that has it yet.

So I guess my 7835 has no actual use in my Legocity unless I buy a new set
of train that works on this type of rail.  Also, how come there's a sign
saying 7835 is a 4.5V set on my instruction?
I'm really confused in this issue.

I live in Canada and I had sent a request for a S@H catalogue two weeks ago,
was 3225 offered in Canada?  Do any of you know?

Not at all. Sorry if I left that impression. The conversion to lay 9V
track where the current track lies is extremely easy. It's basically a
case of removing the track and replacing it. It is dimensionally exactly
the same except for the extra sleepers (ties in US parlance)

Also, how come there's a sign

User error on my part. 12V and 4.5V are very similar. Same outside
rails. But 4.5V is battery powered, 12V is not. It has an extra set of
conductors on a strip down the middle to transmit power to the motors.

Also the Lugnet DB does not yet show 12V/9V/4.5V information.

According to my site...
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/train_depot/oldlist.htm

7834 and 7835 are both maunual
7866 is remote control (not automatic, it has no sensors)

7834 and 7866 are 12V because they come with the centre 12V conductor rails,
7835 does not, so without modification it only works with 4.5V battery trains.
Any of these sets can easily be converted for 9V trains by simply replacing
the track [1] (although the barriers on the 7866 will still require the old
12V transformer to operate)

Matt
[1] I don't actually own any of these sets so if anyone knows different, let
me know.

Since all the track is the same gauge, it can all be easily replaced to work
with the other systems.  The only exception that I know of is the original
Level Crossing piece, because the rails were individually laid in.  I have
7835, and the 9v track works fine.

I used to have both 7866 12V Automatic Level Crossing and 7834 Level
Crossing.  7834 is a manual crossing.  7825, however, is automatic.  It
operated like many 12V train accesories did - with a two button remote
controlled switch that plugged in to the 12V transformer.  One neat
feature was blinking RR Crossing lights.  I love 12V train accessories.
I guess that's why I still run the 12V line instead of the new 9V.  Just
converted the 3225 to 12V - it's cute.

That's 7866, not 7825.  Sorry.

Due to a shortage of 12V motors, I eventually made all my locomotives 9V.  But
I have set up the 7866 remote controlled crossing on my layout, as well as a
more modern looking level crossing, without the swinging arms, but with the
blinking lights in 12V.  This way you get the best of both worlds, I would love
to get my hands on the remote controlled decoupler (7862).

Has anyone used the Mindstorms to detect and set off blinking lights at a
crossing?
