I guess I should post this to RTL first, but I thought I'd try it
hear...
On PNLTC, there's a Chessie Caboose. I'm guessing that stickers
were used on the caboose... Now, I've just recently gotten into
trains (so I know very little and next to nothing about model
trains) & I'm wondering that if I go into a train store, what
gauge of train stickers should I ask for to use with LEGO trains?
Next, I'm wondering if anyone has instructions to build the
Chessie Caboose?
Any help would be appreciated!

Mike -
You'd probably be real close if you looked for O scale decals. I've
seen other LEGO train-heads use Kadee O scale couplers instead of the
standard cylindrical magnets, and they seem to apply nicely to the
existing LEGO train scale. Perhaps O scale may apply to the decals too?
Just for reference, here's Kadee's link to their 806 couplers:

The instructions for that caboose are probably only in the head of the
original designer at this point!

I've done some experimenting with model train decals. You can buy dry decals
and they apply quite easily and nicely onto LEGO bricks. O-scale prints
match the LEGO train scale altough they might be a bit too big depending on
your preference.
As for building instructions, I don't know if Steve will post instructions
for these. The instructions for most of the creations in our website are on
the authors head, mostly trial and error efforts for how things look after
they are built.

Michael,
I used dry transfer decals for my steam engine
(http://users.codenet.net/steveb/index.htm). You can find these at most
train hobby stores. A word of caution though, they are not easy to put on.
And, it's going to put a foreign substance on your LEGO bricks. I'm not
sure what kind of decals/stickers the PNLTC uses though.

Thanks! I'll try it with the photo first, but I might be e-mailing
you soon. :) And the digital picts in stages sounds like a
great idea... I tried LDraw at one time... seemed like a very
sweet system, but don't have the time right now to play around
with it & figure it out... After about 30 minutes of just poking
around, it was over my head... And I'm a programmer by trade. :)
Is there a "LDraw for Dumbies" out there?

You can find Bram Lambrecht's LDraw and LEdit tutorial at

Hi All,
This is the first chance I had to get onto this news group. My company has
firewalls and really doesn't like too much personal use on the web...
Anyway, I used the wet version of the train decals. I like the way you can
slide them around before they stick. They tried to sell me the special fluid
to make them "stick better' but he do fine with water. I used HO guage for
both the Chessie and the Union Pacific.
I would be flattered tohave my stuff copied. I have a few instructions on
the web site but not for the caboose. I found it extremely time consuming
to create these. I might just resort to taking digital pics of them in
stages. Is LeoCad harder to use then LDraw. I have never run LDraw, it
doesn't seem to ike windows PCs...??? I can use some help in this dept. If
I got fast I would create instructions for all my creations.
Michael , if you need some help just give it a try with the photos on the
site and send some e-mail if you have any questions.

PS Please excuse my typing I am on my living room PC and it is hard to do
this from the couch. Office system is down :(

Funny how these threads spam groups so fast. LeoCad is great. The only
trouble is that it is really slow. I have talked with the author and he is
really nice, however he was busy at school. I ran LeoCad on the fastest PC
in the world with a blazingly fast OGL card and still slow?? Maybe we can
convince Leo to tune it up a bit? Leo???
