Scout third motor microscout Hack

I was playing around with my Scout and using a microscout as a third motor using the VLL and fibre optics. It has limited use due to the length restrictions of the fibre optic cable and the microscout motor is not the easiest to use or mount.

I have often played around with two motors connected by a LEGO wire. One motor acts as a generator that powers the other motor. Why not use that set up in conjunction with the Scout/Microscout setup? Parts Needed:

The Microscout motor and a geared motor mate perfectly.

The final mating. A bit Frankenstein-ish but it works. A little plate top and bottom makes a strong connection (omitted for clarity)

The third motor can now be placed anywhere in the model and you gain a little versatility at the cost of a bit of power (possibly) lost in the transfer of power from motor-to-motor-to-motor.

Interesting possibilities. I think it could also be used with Code Pilot to run an additional motor if I’m not mistaken. I don’t own one so I can’t test it.

Thought I would share.

Mike

I have connected both a RCX and a CyberMaster to a CodePilot (and also to a
MicroScout). I don't remember if I tried connecting also a Spybotics, but I
think it work too.

CodePilot accepts VLL codes but only the *Batch* VLL Commands, to make a VLL
Program/Script/Sequence. Unfortunately it doesn’t accept the very useful
Immediate VLL Commands (don’t remember the proper name LEGO gives to these)
like MicroScout does (although it would be more useful if it had a TURN
MOTOR ON / OFF *silent* commands... no beep-beep sounds included :).

So, CodePilot won’t work well as a pure slave (like MicroScout) of any other
pBrick (Scout, RCX, CyberMaster, Spybotics) because it only executes the VLL
commands sent, when you hit the green RUN rubber button.

It’s ok, when you, for some reason, want to store the (let’s call it a) VLL
Script in the pBrick memory (bad idea, waste of pBrick memory), or send it
from the PC through a pBrick (better idea).
But, after sending the VLL commands, you need to physically hit the
CodePilot RUN button, not necessarily your finger, but something... maybe a
bumper, or something connected to a motor.

mc.

[I also sent to lugnet.robotics because that's where the "REPLY-TO" was
directing this msg, so sorry for any dups or excess of xposts]

Subject: Scout connected to Code Pilot with Fiber Optics

I don't have a Code Pilot but I am interested in getting one
to play around
with. I understand that I can use my Scout to program it
using VLL.  On the
Micro Scout fiber optic cable can be connected to the light
sensor using a
technic half pin.  Is this the case with the Code Pilot as
well?  Has anyone
slaved a Code Pilot to their Scout?

Thanks,

Mike

Look online for Brix Command. You can program both the Scout and the RCX. As for
the microscout, you can programthe scout to send VLL (visual light link)
messages in power "P" mode. I hope this helps.

Just a few errors: the synchropiller page link dosn't work, and the images

I fixed Synchropillar's link, but I had no prolems with IE and PneumADDic.

Hmm,under the PneumADDic the code reads, on the last thumb at the bottom

you forget to put the closing quotation marks.  At least for my screwy
browser, it displays everything after that as the image file name.
