These shots are teasers from a MichLUG display to be held next week at Curious Kids Museum, this was a joint project with my dad...

It brings tears to dad’s eyes thinking about the sea monkeys and humans working
together

click it, of course!

A shot to whet your appetite:

no the mech is not attacking the sea beast
The undersea mech works with aqua sub and Sea Monkey beast of burden while the Watery Davidson patrols area.

Nik gives me too much credit. I just built the base and some of the scenery.. that was the easy part.

Nik did ALL the vehicles (and the Sea Monkey hybrid creature/mechanical) except for the crane/sub... that one I had done the frame already but he did most of it from that starting point, with a little suggestion now and then from me. I like the way the inside controls came out. We’ll have to post more pics of some of the vehicles by themselves, the diorama blocks the view of some of their details.

Personally, my favorite is the “Watery Davidson” speeder bike. it’s a real Hawg!

Snipped pics, kept links.

Excellent work, Nik. Appetite whetted!

I really like this kind of work-in-progress display. While a ‘completed’ MOC is great, this has a ‘real world’ feel to it. It’s nice to see the minifigs ‘working’ rather than sitting at a console waiting to push a button or something. Is this how it will be when it is shown?

I like the bionicle mask/cowls. Nice use of parts. And that goes for the rest of it too. Isn’t it great how a yellow/black/transdarkblue colour scheme puts a scene underwater?

One minor point. (and this might only be browser specific) The text you included within the image link doesn’t appear on screen. (it appears above now as links) I was only able to read it when I chose to reply. If this isn’t browser specific, it could be interesting, enabling one to ‘embed’ messages for those who would reply, (and I suppose for those who receive text-only? I’m out of my depth here...I know that people’s mileage may vary, but by how much?) More research needed...

Anyway, keep building and posting.

Peace and construction,

Professor Whateverly

I used plain ol’ FTX, including how the guide says to do alt text.

Shouldn’t that be “wet” your appetite?

Nice work, Nik. I especially like the sub that’s hovering over the base. The construction scene rules, too. Keep it up!

PS - when are the evil chickens going to venture underwater?

I suppose that’s why it didn’t show up as a caption (Ley). I wonder if it automatically quotes alt text in replies instead of inserting the image?

Nik - in the future, you could put the alt text in the image tag, *and* repeat it below the image for captions if you like. That would make sure that people get to read the text, instead of just chancing on it by doing a mouseover.

Very cool. My appetite is wetted. The combination of aquzaone creations and Sea Monkeys always make me happy!

I agree with Joe. I think you may have instigated a Sea Monkey building phase for me. Now that you’re a contributor, any thoughts you might have on how to improve The Aquarium are more than welcome.

I took the carrots off to keep the image from appearing again (I often snip the pics to keep my message shorter as I tend toward verbosity(1). I only saw the alt text in the response window where everything is raw. The other replies with pictures don’t show the alt text (to me, anyway).

I don’t get the alt text on a mouseover either. Is this another case of my mileage varying? I’m not complaining; I like the ‘hidden message’ quality (I can see some uses for that), but that is lost if it doesn’t work like that for most people.

Cue lame attempt to keep this marginally on-topic: Nik, I forgot to say welcome aboard(2). I know you’ve posted a bit, but with this creation, it seems like you’re really here, if that makes any sense. Perhaps it’s a Pieniazek tradition that posts lead to off-topic discussions?...

Peace and ftx,

Professor Whateverly

(1) Nine out of ten on the ‘stating the obvious’ scale ;-)

(2) Or should that be ‘welcome overboard’?

I’ve XFUT to admin.nntp so that the nntp/FTX wizards might notice this thread and see if there is any anomaly worth investigating here or not.

Are you sure about that? What if you fall in love with a landmaid (and some mad
scientist tries to capture you) ? :-)

Very cool! - Excellent use of Bionicle masks for underwater harnesses.  I like
seeing large creations with lots of components (base, vehicles, accessories
[those cool harnesses!], creatures, etc), AND presented in a scene, not just
individual MOCs.  Great job!

As a follow up, here’s the MichLUG post that describes the show, and a link to the show report where you’ll find more pics...

And here is a

teaser for the Brickshelf Gallery

Nik managed to pack
  • joint Aquazone/Sea Monkey construction action
  • an attempted crystal theft (stopped by fierce Goldfish warriors)
  • a shark who is about to bite off more than he can chew,
  • lots of treasure/crystal excavation
  • and a race
all into a relatively tiny a 30” x 30” area...
