It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
Hi- SCLTC is up to something big. We will post a hint daily. You are invited to guess what we are doing. If, by chance, you know what we're doing, then it would not be a guess for you to respond here. Have fun! -Ted Michon SCLTC (19 years ago, 19-Jun-05, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.build, lugnet.trains, lugnet.trains.org.scltc, lugnet.loc.us.ca, lugnet.town, FTX) !

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
Hint #1: It's big. Like, 200,000 bricks big. -Ted (19 years ago, 19-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —C. L. GunningCook
(...) I will start, since mosaics have a bit more than 2000 bricks per base plate, I will guess a super huge 100 baseplate mosaic.... although I dont really think that is it that would be cool! Janey "I suck at guessing, Red Brick" (19 years ago, 19-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) Janey- Actually, I think a 100 (48 x48) baseplate mosaic would be cool. Tha would get the resolution up to 480 x 480 or 75% of VGA, which is a lot better than the 8 baseplate x 3 baselplate mosaic we just presented to Northwood High School in (...)          Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —David Shifflett
(...) Ted, I would love to see some pics of your mosaic. I am toying with the idea of making one for my kids school, (URL) logo is pretty colorful, and I think it would be cool, in about 320x120 resolution (7x3 48x48 baseplates). dave (19 years ago, 23-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, lugnet.build.mosaic, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
Hint #2: We orderd 20,000 green 2x2 bricks for the construction. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —John VanZwieten
(...) How about a giant replica of the BNSF Loco? (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) John- I like the way you think! An actual size BNF! Answer: No. Extended answer: It's not suitable as part of an SCLTC layout. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Where did you order them from, just out of curiosity... (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) Larry- We ordered the green 2x2 bricks from Precious Princess Palace on BrickLink. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
Hint #3: We also ordered 15000 2x2 yellow bricks. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —John Gerlach
(...) Green bricks? Yellow bricks? Let me guess, LOTS of blue bricks? I'm thinking a large globe... (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) John- That sounds like a lot of fun! Answer: No. Extended answer: You speculate accurately on the blue bricks. We have already received 20,000 blue 2x2 bricks and have 12,000 more on order for this project. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Adrian Egli
(...) Well, I do recall seeing an announcement of SCLTC going to the Orange County Fair, and, according to their site, it's the year of the avacado. So, you plan on building a giant avacado made of LEGO bricks. Adr. (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) Adrian- Well, it IS the year of the Avacado, SCLTC IS going to OCF, and one could make a huge avacod with that many green bricks. Answer: No. Extended answer: The Big Thing will make its debut at the 2005 Orange County Fair. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Darrell Urbien
(...) No guess yet (though my original thought - "Brazil" - was killed by subsequent hints, LOL), just a few questions: 1. Will SCLTC be there for the whole Fair? If so that's a lot of fried twinkies! 2. Is this replacing the sand sculptures that (...) (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) Darrell- We like questions. SCLTC will be at the show for about 270 hours for the whole 3 weeks and 4 weekends (we get Mondays off for good behavior). Can't speak to the sand sculptures. The theme this year is "It's Calling You Out to Play" (...) (19 years ago, 21-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
Hint #4: The Big Thing will be constructed on site at the 2005 Orange County Fair by visitors to the fair under the direction of SCLTC members. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Steven Barile
Go with the gut... a Catalina Island map? I would have gone with mosaic too, but them it wouldn't be posted here under .trains! ;) BTW is the fact that it's posted here mean its a train? SteveB (...) (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) Steve- Catalina Island would certainly be topical. And fun. Answer: No. Extended answer. It's not a train. I posted to trains because it's being done by an LTC (just to prove we are versatile?). -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
Hint #6: (I promised 1 per day, but so far I'm honoring every (good) guess with an additional hint.) Height: 7 feet -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Nick Kappatos
(...) That's a lot of green & yellow, and I'm guessing that the blue is filler for.... a 7' tall Crayola Box, which happens to be unsuitable for a SCLTC train layout. -nick (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) Nick- A crayon box would be cool, but it's been done big scale before. Answer: No. Extended answer: The Big Thing is not a box. In fact, horizontally speaking, there is no straight perimiter run longer than about 16 studs (and most are (...) (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Richard Sellens
(...) I will go with a guess of Blue Hair, Green Dress and Yellow Body. It's a model of Marge Simpson with the hair taking it to that tall height :-) Richard (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon

(...) This is fun. You've got me hooked. Big? Colorful? A hot air balloon? Jonathan (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) Jonahtan- We have had some rather small hot air balloons on our layout and a huge won would look nice in our outdoor setting. Answer: No. Extended answer: Definitely belongs outdoors, but frequently found indoors. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Paul Sinasohn
(...) The other featured themes on the website relate to chickens and eggs, but I don't see green, yellow, & blue fitting that concepte.          Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) Paul- We let others do soup cans. Answer: No. Extended answer: While there are two circular cross sections, the Big Thing is not circular. -Ted (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —David Gregory
(...) Hmmm...If it doesn't use baseplates, then it's not a mosaic (something that you could lean against the wall), and it's not something you'd set on the floor/ground either. Doesn't go on the wall... Doesn't go on the floor... 2X2 bricks can't (...) (19 years ago, 20-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, lugnet.fun, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
(...) David- I could dig a 200,000 brick LEGO pit. Certainly would sound good. Might not be all that comfy, long term. Answer: No, it's not a brick pit. Extended answer: Just because it's not on baseplates doesn't mean it's not on the ground (or (...) (19 years ago, 21-Jun-05, to lugnet.trains.org.scltc, lugnet.fun, FTX)

Re: It's coming (new hint daily) —Ted Michon
