DEMAG CC-2800 crawler crane

| | Inspiration
The inspiration for this model came (as does much of my inspiration for crane models) from its use locally, allowing me to get lots of good pics. I have uploaded some of the shots I took to this Brickshelf folder. I have now seen it working in 2 different configurations, and I aim to be able to model both.
Scale
The scale was chosen for me by the crawlers - the largest wheel available that would be possible to use as a sprocket is the 24x43 wheel, and it turns out to have a diameter about 1/13th of the real cranes sprockets. Actually the model swings a bit between 1/13 - 1/14 scale, but most is closest to 1/13.
|
The project will consist of 3 stages:

| |
| | Stage 1: Build the carrier and a short boom (2.2 metres) to test all functionality.
|
|
| |
| | Stage 2 (under construction): Build a superlift derrick and a longer straight boom, I will be trying for 5 metres. At this scale, the maximum length would be 10 metres, but that seems a little excessive.
|
|
| |
| | Stage 3 (under construction): Build a luffing jib attachment, and attempt a 4-5 metre luffing jib configuration.
