Dave Johann
("HardCoreDJ", "Lego Mecha")

Favorite LEGO toys/themes: Mech Building, Space, Star Wars, Technic

My fascination with LEGO began... at age 4 when I recieved my first set. I used it so much that I wore out a few of the pieces.

I once built... a large grey castle to house my 6077 set.

Someday I will build... the Rebel Base on Hoth. (I've already done this, in part)

LEGO is great because... it is as limiting as a person's imagination and drive to succeed

LEGO fans are great because... they are as different as people in general are. I may build space, you may prefer castle, but we both prefer to use Lego to make our dreams a reality.

My favorite Non-LEGO Toys: McFarlane Toys Action Figures

My favorite Hobbies & Interests: Lego (duh!), DeeJaying (HardCoreDJ), being a Mac advocate.

My favorite Foods: virtually anything that's bad for me:pizza, macaroni and cheese, CHOCOLATE!!!

My favorite Movies & TV: Sci-Fi channel, Law and Order, Enterprise, CSI, (formerly) Tech TV (R.I.P)

My favorite Artists: too many obscure ones to name most of my current influences are electronic in nature. I won't list any current favorites because, as a DJ, they keep changing.

My favorite Music: www.grooveradio.com -I was so upset when it left the LA airwaves. Hopefully, it won't die a final death with regards to the internet radio controversy. Currently, www.m1live.com.

My favorite Pets & Animals: Lyssa and Cassiopia (dogs)

Words which best describe me: lucid, manic, trusting, cuddly (so says wife), hardcore in all I do.

I love it when... I find a lost Lego piece wandering the streets of Los Angeles. With me, it finds a new home. (9 different occasions)

I hate it when... rude drivers are near me. The roads are mine. Kindly move out of the way before I use my hood mounted cannon to move you out of my way. ;)

I can't seem to get enough... Lego, attention from my wife, money, time. (not nessecarily in that order)

I always seem to have enough... bricks in sizes and colors that I can't use. (Tan? Who thought that one up?) GIMME Sand Red!

I hope I always... create new designs rather than rehash the same old ones (are you listening TLC? NO MORE TECHNIC CARS!!! And no more lame castle designs.)

I wish I could... have access to any color, any piece, in any quantity that I wanted to use.

I could never... throw away any Lego.

I hope I never... have to part with my Lego. It is the one item that I've had from childhood until now.

I wish I hadn't... had multiple Dark Ages. I missed out on Roboforce, Exploriens, and even a couple of cool looking castle sets (useful for building space creations).

In my craziest moments... I designed Darth Bobo and Darth Pepé (see web page). I also mixed some Johnny Cash into the middle of my live set at club Arena in LA.

Believe it or not... I was a teacher for a decade and a deejay for a couple of years. I've also got quite a bit of retail management experience.

If I were super-human... ...shouldn't that say: 'If I WEREN'T superhuman'? Just kidding... I'd pattern myself after my 3 favorite Avengers: Hawkeye, the Scarlet Witch, and She-Hulk. Justice always comes at a price.

More & Less:
  • more space exploration and cyber-awareness, less gang violence and drive by shootings
  • more world peace and global unity, less civil war and global famine
  • more people with open minds, less people with closed minds

Rules I try to live by:
  1. "No, try not. Do, or do not. There is no try."-Yoda (TESB)
  2. There are billions of galaxies. Why would this be the only one to support intelligent life?
  3. If you don't try, you always fail.

Additional comments:

"I will survive."-Gloria Gaynor and Gloria Estefan.

A few years back, I went through a series of incidents that depressed me to the point of attempting to commit suicide. Fortunately, I failed. The first thing I did after surviving was to get back to basics, aka, my childhood. I figured that since I was happiest as a child, I'd start with that and work from there. I dug out my Lego and just built. It didn't matter what I built and to this day I have only a dim recollection of that 72 hour build-a-thon that helped save my mental health.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that building with these little blocks showed me how to rebuild my life. There is nothing so bad that it can't be overcome with time, patience, and love.
