Ley Ward
("Whateverly")

Favorite LEGO toys/themes: I lean toward Castle, Harry Potter, Studios, Star Wars, Technic and even some Bionicle, but I really just view them as collections of parts for whatever I want to make.

My fascination with LEGO began... in 1970 when my youngest brother received a box of used Lego from our parents.

I once built... an X-wing fighter for my brother back when the first Star wars movie came out. (I guess that was truly Pre-Classic Space)

Someday I will build... too many things to list here.

LEGO is great because... it has a perfect balance of possibility and constraint, as well as inspired geometry. That the basic brick is virtually unchanged since the beginning, is a further testament to its greatness. There are few products of any sort today, which exhibit that degree of compatibility.

LEGO fans are great because... they have a perfect balance of passion and compassion. (madness and kindness...)

My favorite Non-LEGO Toys: Frisbee, musical instruments, spinning tops

My favorite Hobbies & Interests: Music, graphic design, woodworking, gardening,

My favorite Foods: Unadulterated real food.

My favorite Movies & TV: Time Bandits, anything by Terry Gilliam et al., West Wing, Princess Bride, Matrix, English Patient, Firefly/Serenity, Fifth Element, Brother From Another Planet

My favorite Artists: Da Vinci, Picasso, Impressionists, Surrealists, Dadaists, Vienna Seccesion, De Stijl, Rothko, Warhol

My favorite Music: Michael Hedges, Pink Floyd, Tom Waits, King Crimson, Tim Buckley, The Church, Patti Smith,Neil Young

My favorite Pets & Animals: Our five cats

Words which best describe me: Funny, kind, gentle, peculiar, hirsute, pedantic, passionate, curmudgeonly, mischievous

I love it when... I find a cool use for a part that I had previously considered useless; especially if the part is generally considered useless and is therefore available on bricklink for a low price.

I hate it when... I think of a way to use several of a particular part and discover that it is unavailable in any quantity.

I can't seem to get enough... time.

I always seem to have enough... ideas.

I hope I always... dream.

I wish I could... multitask.

I could never... explain it all.

I hope I never... lose sight of the important things.

I wish I hadn't... waited so long to join Lugnet.

In my craziest moments... I wasn't taking notes.

Believe it or not... my wife understands me.

If I were super-human... there'd be a few changes around here...

More & Less:
  • more tolerance and compassion, less fundamentalism of any stripe
  • more community mindedness, less corporate greed
  • more peace, less war

Rules I try to live by:
  1. Humour is serious and therefore of utmost importance.
  2. Do the right thing without turning every aphorism into a cliché.
  3. Why stop at three?
