("PENNSYLEGOMAN")

Favorite LEGO toys/themes: Trains, Town, Star Wars

My fascination with LEGO began... at 6 years of age in Williamstown, NJ way back in 1970. I wonder if my first sets may have been imports as I'm reading that LEGO wasn't introduced in the states until 1973-75? No wonder why my parents complained that they're so expensive. I entered the dark ages during my mid-teens and came out from it in the early 90's when my sister presented me with a shoebox of what were some of my old blocks she had found while tidying up my parents attic. Upon my wife seeing the quality playtime I was exhibiting with this shoebox blast from the past, she bought me my first LEGO set of the modern era as a stocking stuffer. It has taken off from there - it's all her fault:)

I once built... a suspension bridge consisting of over 17,000 pieces with a main span of 18 feet (approx 5.5 meters) and an overall length of 32 feet (approx 10 meters.) Later I built a cable-stayed bridge with the same dimensions using over 32,000 pieces as I doubled up on the roadway width. This bridge appeared in the front window of Zany Brainy in Lancaster PA for two months back in 1996.

Someday I will build... even larger bridges incorporating sets of tracks and having my LEGO trains make runs back and forth across the bridge.

LEGO is great because... you can set 2x4 bricks on end like dominoes and topple them. (I tried to be original.)

LEGO fans are great because... we know quality and we enjoy the pain from walking on LEGO while barefooted and on a hardwood floor.

My favorite Non-LEGO Toys: the other "L" toy - Lionel Trains

My favorite Hobbies & Interests: Bicycling, visiting and photographing suspension and cable-stayed bridges.

My favorite Foods: Fast

My favorite Movies & TV: Battlestar Galactica, The 4400

My favorite Artists: My daughter

My favorite Music: Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Rush, Loreena McKennitt, Jean Michel Jarre, and anything Cookie Monster sings (especially '"C" Is For Cookie')

My favorite Pets & Animals: All dead and buried in backyards throughout the greater Philadelphia area.

Words which best describe me: goal oriented

I love it when... -Lance Armstrong wins the Tour de France. -they don't put cheese and special sauce on my Big Mac as requested. -a slower car in the left lane pulls into the right to allow me to pass prior to my being there.

I hate it when... the above things don't happen.

I can't seem to get enough... 2x4 bricks.

I always seem to have enough... 1x1 bricks. Is "brick" even applicable with just a 1x1? These things are just filler to boost piece counts in bulk tubs!

I hope I always... set a good example by doing the right thing with and around my daughter.

I wish I could... -spel beter. -obtain thousands of same color / same size bricks at deep discount.

I could never... cut the grass and like it.

I hope I never... stop riding a bicycle.

I wish I hadn't... done a lot of things in my past.

In my craziest moments... I have to make sure I keep my wits about me as they usually happen at work - I'm a woodworker with much cutting and shaping machinery.

Believe it or not... I ran over a live skunk with my bicycle while riding to work at 4:30am. It was dark and I had my lights turned off and thought it was just a dark spot on the road until I saw it move; by which time it was too late. Bump under the front wheel, then under the bottom bracket and bump under the rear wheel. I thought it was a cat. I was hoping it was a cat! Due to moving along at a 17 mph pace I couldn't smell that it had sprayed me until I walked into work and noticed everybody heading for the exits.

If I were super-human... I'd take my wife on my back for some incredible fly overs.

More & Less:
  • more bridges, less tunnels
  • more construction, less distruction
  • more shoulder width, less rumble strips

Rules I try to live by:
  1. Wake up
  2. 186,000 miles per second - it's the law! Albert Einstein
  3. put the seat down

Additional comments:

In addition to what's on my Set Inventory, I have 8 - 18 gallon rubbermaid storage totes filled with the basic 1X and 2X bricks.

I miss bulk brick box #335 from the early 90's
