Who is Felix?

Howdy! I’ve been an involved member of the AFOL community for a while now. I’ve participated in a number of events and in a number of capacities. In 2005, I applied and was accepted to the LEGO ambassador program. In order to apply, I had to create a resume of my activities in the LEGO community. Below is the body of my application. For my real resume/Curriculum Vitae, click here.

Community Involvement:
Brickfest Theme Coordinator and MC. Brickfest is the largest and probably most recognized adult fan of lego (AFOL) event. For the last three years, I have helped coordinate this event. In 2003, I acted as space coordinator and helped put together one of the largest space displays ever produced by the AFOL community at that time. In 2004 I acted as MC for Brickfest, introducing speakers, making announcements, and trying to keep an overall light-hearted attitude for the event. I have signed on for year 2005 and am looking forward to the event.
Chicago House of Bricks Founder and Event Coordinator. Chicago House of Bricks was a Midwestern AFOL convention held May 6-8, 2005. This event was held in conjunction with a science fiction and fantasy convention called ‘2 Be CONtinued’. What I feel is unique about this event is that it reached out to fellow science fiction and fantasy enthusiasts; those who might be referred to as LEGO ‘sleeper’ fans. My staff and I plan to make this an annual event.
SciBrick Founder. SciBrick was founded in 2003 as a way to centralize the space enthusiasts of the AFOL community and encourage showing space creations to the public. The first year I acted as communications officer: leader of the group and the person responsible for seeking display opportunities. The first SciBrick display was done in Houston, Texas as a benefit for science education. We were very happy to have had several national celebrities, politicians, and astronauts in attendance who were all very enthusiastic about our display.
Chicago LEGO Builders (CLB) Founder. Prior to last year, the only LEGO clubs in the area of Chicago were train clubs. I participated as a friend and enthusiast, but trains are not my primary area of interest. Last year with the help of many fans in the Chicago area, CLuB was founded as a general LEGO users group (or LUG) for Chicago and the surrounding area. Many of the members of CLB helped coordinate Chicago House of Bricks.
Contribution to Lugnet and Classic Space Forum. I am well known and well received at both lugnet and the classic space forum. I was one of the earliest participants of both of these forums. I believe I am well known not only for the things I have built, but for an over all light-hearted and community minded attitude. I currently act as moderator for the Aquazone area on Lugnet.
City of Bloomington Community Involvement. In my doctoral work, I have encouraged the use of LEGO in high school and junior high science classes. In 2002, I helped Normal Community High School write a $1000 grant from the National Science Foundation. I’m happy to say, the money was awarded and the all of it was used to buy LEGO Mindstorms for the classrooms. The Children’s Discovery Museum in my town has recently commissioned me to build an interactive LEGO display which will be ready in the summer of 2005.
