Grabber mechanisms

Here are some instructions for a couple of similar grabber mechanisms that are suitable for robots. The main idea with both mechanisms is that with one motor, two distinct mechanical actions take place: grab and lift.

These grabbing mechanisms should be viewed as starting points. I suggest building them as they are in the instructions first and then customizing them for your application. If you are working with the NXT set, you can turn the input axle directly from the motor. If you are using the RCX, you will probably want to gear it down unless you want a very quick grab and lift. (In my puck-up robots, the mechanism was driven directly by an RCX motor and the mechanism would actually grab and throw the foam pucks into the basket at the rear of the robot. It was quite cool to watch.)
