Back Xmas 1999 Home

December, 1999

Our dear giant friends,

All the pieces fell into place. As the four-legged furry monster, a.k.a. Cleo, inked her paws to write this year’s Christmas letter, we caused an effective diversion. First, the passenger train left its station and rolled towards the soccer stadium; the delivery boy dropped his pizza; and a couple of racecars revved their engines. We had the monster’s attention. Next, the yellow and blue bricks began to shimmy in their tub-homes. The other colors quickly joined the dance, and soon all bricks were hopping. With the monster mesmerized in the spectacle, a few lead bricks seized the opportunity to bring you this year’s Stabno Scoop.

Greetings from PlastiCity. Our community is a small but thriving LEGO town full of smiling plasticitizens with the occasional giant visitor. Some of these giants are The Builder and The Boss who must live nearby since we see at least one of them on a daily basis. Following the Edict of The Boss, our town was relocated from the high grounds of the dormer bedroom to subterranean levels of the basement. Our community has sprawled from 4 table-units to 10 and is only halted temporarily as The Builder had to promise The Boss not to purchase any more table real estate until the next year.

During the day when The Builder and The Boss go to the giant city to work as an actuary and a middle school vocal music teacher, we the plasticitizens go about our daily tasks of work and play. We make sure to restore all order and stand perfectly still when our giant neighbors return in the evening. Only the furry monster who tries to cause the occasional earthquake has caught us sneezing from time to time.

This year The Builder tried his feet at indoor soccer while The Boss played volleyball. Some nights The Boss actually had to piece The Builder back together after his games, but he kept going back and claims to have had a good time. The Boss stacked up one rehearsal after another to put on great performances as Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof and as a chorus member of Handel’s Messiah. The Builder clicked his hands together in support.

During the summer, our giant neighbors left for a short time to spend time with friends in Minnesota. On the way, they visited the Bridges of Madison County. Then they stayed at the historic Carriage House Bed & Breakfast in beautiful Winona, Minnesota. After jet skiing on the Mississippi and riding the tandem bike around Lake Winona, our neighbors said that they would highly recommend this vacation spot to other giant visitors. The rest of the week was spent in Minneapolis with friends. Highlights of that city tour include the museums, zoo, amazing Grand Old Creamery, and mall. We caught word that other plasticitizens have settled in the mall, but we prefer our own little town.

When The Builder is not constructing new ideas for our town, he studies for his actuarial exams. We have seen him do a few small dances of joy, which leads us to believe that this year’s results have been favorable. However, he’s holding out for the giant dance of joy, which is only a few more years away. The Boss continues to create lots of concerts for the little giants at her school.

Not too long ago, a giant person brought a black box which clicked and flashed bright lights at our city. To be honest we were a little concerned about this new phenomenon, but The Builder assured us that lots of giants would see our smiling plastic faces in the local newspaper. We would rather see you in person and we hope that you will come to visit and bring your playful little giants along, too.

At our last town hall meeting, it was decided to place high priority on constructing a church for our city. In the meantime our giants travel often to their congregation where The Builder continues to count and sort little and big bits and The Boss teaches the playful little giants about the Almighty Modelbuilder.

Some of the pieces were assembled to take their places on the giant cone shaped tree. They are currently watching as the world around them prepares itself for the celebration of the birth of our Prince of “Piece”. They can sense their giant neighbors’ thankfulness for their families and friends; for the simple treasures of hope, joy, love, and peace; for the calling to community. The pieces also sense that we need to focus on the true celebrations of life and to always follow the instructions of our Almighty Modelbuilder.

Have a “Pieceful” Merry Christmas and a Constructive New Year!
