“So Drakko you have heard both sides of the story. Which side will you pledge your loyalty?” Bjarn asked, rubbing his gray beard.

“I am bound to the code of the Black Falcon, but I think what my king is doing is wrong. I’m in a bit of a dilemma right now...” Drakko replied, pacing up and down.

“Well soldier while you think, we’ve got a bit of company.” Reno pointed off into the distance where twelve Black Falcons heading straight toward them. The group quickly regained there weapons.

“Now’s your time to choose, Falcon.” Barbod said and he readied his spear.

Drakko approached the soldiers. He sensed something was not right. The way the soldiers moved and behaved were very different from a normal Black Falcon soldier. One of the soldiers approached Drakko.

Soldier: “What are you all doing here? You will pay us for passing here!”

Drakko: “How dare you speak like that to me soldier! Don’tt you know who I am?! State to me the code!”

Soldier: “Code?! What code are you blabbering about?!”

Drakko: “Every Falcon soldier is bound by a code. Obviously, you are not one of us!”

Soldier: “That’s right! We’re pirates and you are gonna die!”

The soldier drew his sword while Drakko drew his. A fight broke out.

“PIRATES!” Reno shouted, unsheathed his sword and charged the nearest pirate. Bjarn was firing arrows left and right and then hitting every enemy with his spear. Barbod was in a furious battle frenzy.

“ARRRGHHH!!! BLOODY FALCONS!!!” he shouted.

“Excuse me good king but these are pirates, not Falcons!” Drakko said, plunging his sword into a pirate’s arm.

Barbod didn’t seem to care “BLOODY FALCONS!!!”

The battle lasted for ten minutes until all the pirates were dead.

“What in the....pirates in Falcon gear!” Drakko was pacing up and down looking at each pirate.

“There is something else behind this...” Bjarn said like a wise wizard.

Wiping the blood from his spear, Bjarn proceeded to gather his arrows from the corpses. When he was finished, he looked toward his new companions, who were tending to minor wounds. Stumping back over to them, he nodded gruffly and pointed toward the distant Creak Woods, in the Dark forest territory.

“We are all now outcasts.” he stated. “Killing two score men, whether pirates or Falcons, is no small matter. I suggest we flee to the realm of Dark Forest and then on to Wolfpack. I have allies there that might help us.”

Bjarn looked from the Bull-Crest King to the Falcon Soldier to the lone traveler. “What say you?”

All three men nodded. Tightening the straps on their packs, there proceeded toward the Creak Forest.

“So Bjarn you are an allie of the Wolfpack? Maybe they know information about my missing brother. I need to find him and take care of him.” Reno said staring at the floor.

“Haha outcasts, I’ve been one of those all my life!” Barbod said grimly.

“That’s the difference between you and me.” Drakko muttered under his breath.

They made there way to the borders of the woodland realm.

“Ready your weapons, my friends, this is a dangerous place..” Bjarn said, instinctively clutching his spear they ventured further into the dark forest...

“Aye, I’ve ventured here many a time in my life, and it is a dangerous place.” Barbod began, smiling, “In fact, It is said there be a dragon in these forests.”

He leaned up against Drakko’s ear, and said, “That likes to eat..” He paused for a moment...“Bloody FALCONS!”

Barbod was now laughing so hard, he almost fell to his knees.

“Be quiet!” hissed Bjarn, “There are worse things than dragons in these woods.”

Barbod quickly turned and hurled his spear with mighty force in the bush to their side. He ran after it and disappeared into the bush. Bjarn readied an arrow, and Drakko prepared his sword. Reno readied himself. But back came Barbod, humming a happy tune, as he threw a deer onto the path in front of them.

“Make me a fire, Falcon. Dinner is served!” He smiled

“So you’re a bit of a legend in these parts, are you not?” Reno asked Lord Barbod.

“Aye I am” Barbod said while ripping into the deer’s belly, “These BLOODY FALCONS mostly talk about me though.”

There was a rustle in the bushes from where the deer had come from.

“What was that?” Drakko asked.

“It’s probably just another deer.” Reno said happily eating his portion of the deer.

A crossbow bolt shot past Reno’s head and stuck in a nearby tree.

“That be no deer lads.” Bjarn said, taking his bow out and putting an arrow on it. The rest of the group readied their weapons, apart from Barbod, who was still happily eating the deer. Suddenly a bolt struck the dead deer he stood and pulled up his spear.

Barbod raised his spear. “No man ruins my meat!”

He looked to the place from which the arrow had came.

“Show yourself!” He spat upon the dirt.

An arrow whizzed by Reno’s head, coming from the opposite direction of the first.

“Worry not, lad!” Barbod smiled, “These men either want us alive or have horrid aim! Show yourself!” He screamed again, and something began to rustle in the bushes.

“You heard the man, show yourself!!” Reno screamed.

Another bolt came whizzing through the air but this time its aim was true and it deeply struck Reno in his left arm.

“ARRRGGGHHHH!!” Reno shouted in pain and he dropped to the floor.

“Hahahaha horrible aim!” a voice came from within the trees.

This time an arrow got fired from Bjarn’s bow and obviously hit one of the assassins as one of them fell out of a tree. It seemed the assassins were retreating so the group went over to see the attacker.

“What the....” Bjarn muttered.

“A elk? A elk on the man’s chest?” Barbod was dumbfounded, “What in blazes is that?”

“Forestmen, genius.” muttered Bjarn.

“But you are one of those! Did you send the assassins?” Barbod was obviously joking.

“Are you ok, Reno?” He helped up the wounded man.

“I’ll be ok...” Reno said slowly.

The assassin began to move. He slowly started to get up, only to be impaled by Barbod’s spear.

“Forestmen...” Barbod shook his head.

“Best be moving. This is not a safe place for us.” Drakko said, and together they marched into the woods.

“So Reno, what does this brother of yours look like?” Barbod smiled.

“I Don’t really know , his name’s Aros and he’s an adventurer but that’s all I know. He’s probably near Royal Land, Knight Kingdom, Crusaders and such but my bets are on Crusaders land. He always wanted to go there.... but soon as I can I’m going to go get my mother’s pendant from the pirates then find my brother...”

The group continued into the forest.

Burtrand paced back and forth on the bridge of his ship, the Hornet. He was pondering the Royal Knight’s shipping records his spies had just brought him. His last raid on their cargo ships had been interesting. Royal Knight’s had sent a navy escort with the cargo ships, and he had an interesting time dealing with them. He made it through, but barely.

“Sir!”

Burtrand turned and there stood his first mate, Sydney Smythe.

“Sir, I seen one of the crew who we sent after th’ lubber who jumped Georgie and his lady friend. He’s got some sort of metal about the neck. I fear it’s some treasure he ain’t told you ‘bout,” Sydney said.

“Send him to me at once!” Burtrand scowled.

A few moments later, the crew member knelt, sniveling at Burt’s feet. Burt took his cutlass’ tip and lifted the cord of the pendant around the fool’s neck. The pendant was beautifully wrought of silver and diamond, hung on a leather thong.

“I see you have found quite a fair trinket,” Burtrand said.

“Sir! I didn’t mean to! I was gonna give it to you, honest!”

Burtrand cut the cord holding the pendant, flung it into the air. He caught it and put it in his pocket. He then kicked the sailor in the face and sent him sprawling across the deck.

“Smythe!” Burt said, “hang him from the main upper yardarm!”

“Consider it done, cap’n,” said the first mate.

Burtrand descended the ladder to the main deck and entered his cabin, where he had a bottle of rum waiting.

Drakko was confused. Has his King lied to him? If Lord Barbod was evil, he could have killed Drakko a long time ago. But everything was peaceful in the western part of the land. By leaving the Black Falcon lands, is Drakko considered a deserter and a traitor? He do not wish to confront his King as he do not want to anger the King. He was in no position to accuse the King of lying. However, he has pledged his loyalty and will not disobey his King. But Lord Barbod is not the evil person that Drakko thought.

Drakko made up his mind to join this group and planned to seek the truth.

Drakko thought about the other three men. Reno seem like a good person. He is looking for his long lost brother. Lord Barbod on the other hand, seeks to regain his throne as King of the Bulls.

But what about Bjarn? What is his quest? He seem to have allies with the Wolfpack. Drakko didn’t trust the Wolfpack. He had heard bad stories about this pack. Wolfpack were known to be thieves and could not be trusted. They would take what they wanted and used it to their advantage. Drakko felt he should keep an eye on Bjarn.

Bjarn leaned against a trunk of a tree and contemplated his three companions. During his trek with them he now knew more about them all.

That Reno is an interesting chap, thought Bjarn, He’s brave, not as experienced as the others though. He keeps talking about long-lost brother and some kind of necklace his mommy gave him. Bjarn rolled his eyes, working himself into one of his many bad moods. I don’t give a rabbit’s rear end about lost relations or family heirlooms. The only reason I’m stuck with these dunderheads is because I saved their lives.

Bjarn snorted and stretched. And that bearded one, what’s with him? He’s so desperate to get his behind on a golden throne his doesn’t think about anything else. Power-hungry, he is.

Bjarn’s eyes traveled to the last figure, curled near the fire in a threadbare blanket. Bjarn almost felt pity for the lone Falcon. Everything he knew, everything he believed in a had been snatched away when he ran into a band of misfits. Misfits, that’s what we are. Wanders. People without a home. Rejects. And with that thought, Bjarn fell asleep.

As the foursome prepared for another days travel, Bjarn confronted Lord Barbod, Reno and Drakko. “I heard your muttering in the night.” he growled, “And I want to make clear to you three several points. First, I am not a member of Wolfpack, I am a proud member of the Forestmen.”

“So it was you who sent assassins!” Drakko accused.

“Second,” Bjarn continued as if he hadn’t heard, “Those assassins were not Forestmen. For starters, true Forestmen would never fire one who carries the Elk Crest.”

Bjarn wielded his heavy shield in front of their faces. “Also,” Bjarn smirked at Reno and his makeshift wrap over his wound, “Forestmen are better shot than those folk. Reno’d be deader than a log if those assassins were Forestmen.”

“Pirates!” Barbod shouted, “Pirates must have dressed up in Forestmen gear like they did with the bloody Falcons!”

Bjarn smiled grimly, glad he han convinced at least one person. “Pirates could only acquired those clothes from one place; a Forestman camp. I suggest we head south into the Forestmen Realm and search out all the camps. We might find your necklace, Reno.” He added as Reno began to protest. “If after we have searched all the camps and have found no sign of the pirates or your treasure I suggest we continue on to Wolfpack. They have spies everywhere and are well informed about almost anything that occurs in the world.”

“Alright, lets go!” shouted Lord Barbod, who had worked himself into frenzy, “I like a good quest!”
