2001/09/15

On September 11, 2001, the United States of America was subjected to several brutal terrorist attacks. Two hijacked airliners were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, another made impact with the Pentagon in Washington D.C. A fourth airliner, thought to be on an attack run for one of several targets, was downed in the forest outside of Pennsylvania.

Here at LUGNET™, many people found up-to-the-minute news from ground zero and around the world. They found a compassionate shoulder to cry on, and a caring ear to hear their pain. There was a united outpouring of sympathy from fans of LEGO® toys from all four corners of the Earth.

In the time following this disaster, many people from the community contacted the groups, to check in on friends thought to be near the sites of the attacks, to express thanks to the community for the news updates, or simply to express their thoughts and prayers for those who perished, and for those who survived.

I urge you to provide what support you can. Donations of money to aid relief efforts can be made through The American Red Cross, PayPal, or Helping.org. Donations of blood can be made through your local hospital or Red Cross field office. Good thought and prayers can be made wherever you are, and whenever you can.

You may have noticed the title I’ve placed at the top of this page. It is taken from the subject line of message posted by Eric Sophie. I thought it appropriately summed up both the feelings and experiences shared by all of those at LUGNET the day of the attacks, as well as offering a unique summary of both the people who frequent these groups, and the hobby of LEGO toys that brings us here. Let’s hope that we can continue to come together, and continue to build with our LEGO bricks, in freedom and liberty, for the rest of time.

Sincerely, Matthew Gerber
