I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not, but Paul essentially confessed AND ratted you out on my FB page just today! LOL

Hope that you didn’t throw out a shoulder, Benn! :-P

I’d love to take responsibility for that, but alas, I’ve never seen your layout live :(

Now that you mention it, the prime suspects would be cheeky Canucks, but there are so many cheeky LTDs that, at this point, EVERYONE is suspect!

   Some day...

Well, I fear that unless you ever plan a road trip to MN, you may never see it. We have a great home here at Brickmania, and I think that any stuff we take on the road will be other than this layout. Eek, the thought of joining the underworld of the unwashed masses of plywooders....

Great to see some activity on the Trains newsgroup today! We will post new
photos of Tim's Virginia State Capitol, designed by Thomas Jefferson, and soon
(hopefully) to be displayed at our State Capitol. This year we have a much
smaller display at the Aviation Museum. Perhaps next year the new system will
create more excitement, and we can once again promote LEGO trains.

The Richmond Lego Users Group (RichLUG)  will once again present a display at
the Virginia Aviation Museum's Ninth Annual Wings n' Rails show in Richmond,
Virginia, on March 29-30. Hours for the event are 9:30 am to 5:00 pm both
days. The museum is located at the Richmond International Airport in Sandston:

D’oh! Insert the tube first- then trim it with something...

This is easier said than done (tried it-- one time). The other method was safer, quicker, and more efficient.

So after several shows upon shows with NILTC building and rebuilding my trees, I finally took the time to ‘tube’ them in a similar fashion to yours. Sooooo much better, I have to say. They stayed together like a charm. So I wanted to say thanks for the idea (which i spotted not here, but when I saw the display at Brickworld last year). I don’t use a rod at all for mine, but admittedly, mine are slightly shorter (so far) and have a wider base (4x4).

When I did my tubing, I actually used a sharp razor blade knife and inserted the tube first, then cut the remaining exposed portion off. It worked well enough for me, and did save my poor fingers from hating me too much (originally I started with a duller blade from my pocket knife which was awful). I’m just glad I had over 4000 pieces of dark gray tubing to use...(though i probably only went through maybe 100 pieces.)

Anyways, just wanted to mention that. As soon as I have a few pics of the trees on Brickshelf, I’ll post a link.

The Twin Cities LEGO Train Club will be having a 1 day solo show on Sunday, December 23rd at:

Colonial Church 6200 Colonial Way Edina, MN

It’s very easy to find; it’s just north of Crosstown 62 at the Tracy exit, between 169 and Hiway 100.

Show times: Noon until 5pm.

We’ve never shown in our own backyard, so to speak, so this is a chance for locals to see our layout IRL:-)

So come on out and check us out; there is no charge for admission.

Hope to see you there!

As my $20 Blue, electronic name badge read, you suck.

I want to thank “the locals” for pointing me in the direction of a “target” where i got a sweet deal on my Snackmaster.

I also want to thank the members of ILTCO for taking my dirty brickster cherry. what an interesting time that was. so “you people” just gather around to try to steal lego from each other while janey tries to out scream John Neal? interesting.

it was a fun time for me, and i just wanted to say thanks.

p.s. Dont worry Steve Witt you suck too.

pps to the other steve, (NOT Barille) i want pics of the magnet cars over the trian layout.

My ten-wheeler with a Sava/BBB inspired pilot (more to come on this locomotive)

Wow... I’ve been straining my eyes to get a better look at this one and I had a hand in its’ inspiration? And to think I was looking for inspiration from it... (I still plan to).

Well, after building my Hiawatha last year I threw in the steam engine towel for a while. The locomotive ran fine at home, but couldn’t take the bumpy track we have at shows and it dirtied the track like no tomorrow. Then I saw what you and Ben Fleskes came up with for splitting what should be the pilot truck. Well, that got me back in the steam game. I’ve just uploaded my detailed shots of the tenwheeler (they are off of my main brickshelf, under NP, Full Gallery). I’ll post to lugnet separately about the engine in a few days, but yes, it incorporates great ideas from you and several other people. It is a good runner.

Benn

I’m sorry to hear about the Hiawatha... have you localized the exact problem when it goes into the uneven track? I’ve run into the same problem before on most of my steamers, and I’ve found some solutions and still looking for others. Do you have any plans to try and redesign the Hiawatha to perform better on the show track? I’m far from an expert but I’d be happy to help out in any way I can.

As for your NP 328 I’m thrilled to finally get to see some up close and personal pictures. What an astounding level of detail you’ve put into it. The hatch revealing the water tank on the back of the tender is priceless, as is the fact you designed design the tender to have removable coal. The cab details are fantastic, I love the look of those curved bricks marking back end of the boiler. The SNOTwork on the boiler looks great too.

How well does it perform through points with the flanged wheels so far apart? I have a design in mind that may require me to have such a large gap between flanges, so it’d be nice to know how yours performs.
