Visit my LEGO Pages: Eric Kingsleys LEGO Pages Main Street (First Block) This started a little while ago as a Brikwars scenery project but my efforts were diverted elsewhere and things didnt go very far. Recently I was remotivated by the possibility of NELUG doing a display where modern town type buildings would be needed. While none of these buildings are modeled after anything in particular they are a conglomeration of my experiances going down Main Streets of small cities and large towns in New England. LUGNET Message: I always like constructive criticisms of my models so please respond to this message to let me know what you think and how I can improve this model.
As you can see there are 3 buildings so far. The first is a corner store that reminds me of a grocery store or drug store. I guess the second story is either offices or appartments. The second building is 3 stories with a store on the first floor and appartments on the second and third floor. This building is configured for access to the interior although other than the floors none of the interior is finished. I also put a billboard on the side of this building. Origionally I meant for the billboard to signify For Rent although now both my wife and I think it looks more like an advertisement for the show RENT. This is the only building I have included access to the interior to mainly because I dont want to use up too many 1xX tiles, so until I can get 1xX tiles in bulk and in satisfactory colors configuring the other buildings will have to wait. The third building is a simple one story shop. The one aspect of this building I like is the sign over the door. Please dont pay too much attention to the vehicles. I didnt put much time into them and they are not my strong suit. I just wanted something on the roads. You can see here that I have paved my sidewalks with black tiles thanks to LEGO Direct although now I need more to get around the corner. I have also included light posts, a phone booth, and a Mailbox (because we dont have enough mailboxes for Brikwars already) Each of the buildings is based on multiples of a 16x32 baseplate and each building overlaps the road plates by 1 stud length which means the baseplate sticks out 1 stud length in the back. Because of the overlaping and because I wanted consistancy to my sidewalk width the corner store is actually 32x33 to fill the space properly. Here is the back of each of the buildings. One last view. |
