So I’m just puttering (now that the built parts of the layout are mostly rebuilt
after Hurricane Josh), getting set up for NovaLUG’s Feb 1-3 show...
When I stumbled across this bag of stuff--

OMG.. that long ago?? I really have to sort my stuff...
Anyway, so I put the Uranium vehicle back together for putting in the layout for
the upcoming year--
Whilst doing so, I had a wonderful walk down memory lane. I mean, I played with
my classic space sets LOTS in my youth--got the--
for x-mas the year it came out, and the love went on from there....
However, no land vehicle gave me such joy and playtime (and even inspration for
many technic vehicles, vis a vis the tire setup) than the Uranium Search
Vehicle.
I mean, seriously, this set had it all! playability, functionality, moving
parts, 2!!! minifigs, tons of tools!! (and the trans yellow pieces :) )..
Oh the fun!
So I went perusing thru LUGNET set reference (again for the 1 billionth time)
and just looked thru the classic space sets, and was very nostalgically
happy....
Until...

Really, LEGO?
Really??
Yes I bought this set (hey, I was space set complete there for a bit) off the
shelf at Zellers (oh, remember when there were Zellers stores??? Such a long
time ago...)
It was so bad that it didn’t even make it into my LEGO Wars movie. I OWNED it and I didn’t EVEN put it into the movie I was
making about Classic Space LEGO sets!! That’s how bad it is!!! Take the worst
thing you can imagine, double it, send it on a slow sewage freighter to Tau Ceti
4 and when you get there they tell you, ‘Wrong Planet!’, and you don’t even come
close to how bad this set is!!!
So I built it last night.
Hey teenage me--give your head a shake! It’s not--
by any means, but then again, what is? The 1968 isn’t all that bad. Maybe it’s
30 years of reflection, but it’s a pretty nifty (albeit blocky) little set!
And I’m going to be very happy seeing it in the OBB Classic Space Layout this
year.
So there you are.
