protocol to allow any two RCXs in the group to transmit arbitrary strings
of bytes to each other unambiguously, without the others getting confused.

That was what the LNP (LegOS Network Protocol, which I guess was discussed
on the LegOS list) supposedly had as a goal. I'm afraid that it appears to
have died. I may get back into it, I suppose, but I have to focus on other
stuff at the moment and have absolutely zero messaging protocol
experience.

Well, it hasn't actually died, just slowed down a bit. If you look on
lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos there has been some very low-level talk recently.
I haven't done *any* lego stuff recently, but, when I do I'll likely be doing
networking stuff.

I'm kinda working on a simulation of the networking so that different things
can be tried out. It's not an emulator, it's a discrete event simulator, but
I'm trying to design it so that it will show the same effects you'd find in the
real thing. Why do this? Well, i'm not as much a hardware/low-level guru as
Kekoa ;-) Incidentally, i'm currently writing it in C++, but I could equally
well write it in Java. Since I'm planning on making it open source when it gets
to the right stage, which language would people prefer?
