I currently have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P32 (which I still regret buying, wont buy
another Sony camera again anytime soon).

I am looking for a good low-mid range compact point & shoot that I can use to
photograph LEGO models and can also go out and take inspiration shots (e.g.
cars, buses, trains, buildings etc)

I obviously want an optical zoom for the inspiration shots and I presume I need
Macro mode for the LEGO models (to capture fine details).

Not going to buy a Sony again, not after the last one (and I have other reasons
to hate Sony and all their products which I wont go into here).
I have a family member who has Canon product and swear by it (he owns a whole
pile of canon SLR gear and also owns Canon Powershot Point & Shoot and a bunch
of family members own Canon printers) so a Canon seems like it would be good.

Can anyone recommend a suitable camera?
