Milo Van Valkenburgh

Favorite LEGO toys/themes: Mindstorms, Mecha (the unofficial type), technic, Space sets of all kinds... I have recently developed an urge to see how strong of a structure I can make with the parts I have. I do have quite a few pieces, judging by how much of my room they take up, though my inventory probably pails in comparison to many on Lugnet... Where was I? Oh yes, a short while ago I suddenly wanted to build something that would support more lateral, radial and torsional loads than anything I have ever built before. To the forum I go to give details!

My fascination with LEGO began... When I was given my first boxed set as a toddler. I seem to recall it was a rather small pirate set, in the days of the original Lego pirates. It got quite a bit of use, especially the shark it came with.

I once built... A almost-all-Lego trebuchet (sort of a weight driven catapult or "siege engine") the only part that was not lego was the steel weight I encased in bricks. It worked pretty well, and shot assorted small tyres (anti-wall-gouge missiles) across the room.

Someday I will build... A mecha as tall as I am (I'm 6', that would be quite a task!)

LEGO is great because... I honestly do not think I could do justice to these plastic pieces that have so shaped my life, especially not such a paltry space as this.

LEGO fans are great because... Out of any given sample size above 2 or 3, the subjects that frequently play with Legos will have the best dreams.

My favorite Non-LEGO Toys: Hand and powertools, mechanical parts of all kinds, wooden blocks (those were my world, pre-Lego)...

My favorite Hobbies & Interests: Martial arts, fixing things, especially bicycles,

My favorite Foods: Thai, Indian and Mexican in general, coconut custard pie, Sri Racha hot sauce

My favorite Movies & TV: As good as it gets; the Matrix; Star Wars 4, 5 and 6; Artificial Intellegence...

My favorite Artists: MC Escher, Pablo Picasso

My favorite Music: David Byrne, Primus, King Crimson, Steeleye Span, Pink Floyd...

My favorite Pets & Animals: Waney, my deceased Leopard gecko, Moby, my white fluffy dog

Words which best describe me: Creative, kind, inspired, eclectic, odd

I love it when... I share a thought with someone without speaking.

I hate it when... Someone irritates someone else maliciously.

I can't seem to get enough... Empathy, compassion.

I always seem to have enough... Anger, worries.

I hope I always... Have the support of the precious few who understand me.

I wish I could... Go to Saturn and come back alive.

I could never... Give birth. Too much pain and suffering, both during and after.

I hope I never... Lose a limb, or a friend before their time.

I wish I hadn't... Said that one thing, that one time...

In my craziest moments... I feel giddy.

Believe it or not... I am a black belt.

If I were super-human... I would probably bring Albert Einstein back from the dead and ask him a few things.

More & Less:
  • more Human decency, less embarassment
  • more Love, less Hatred
  • more functional families, less unplanned pregnancies

Rules I try to live by:
  1. You really think it'll be that short?
  2. Huh?
  3. Whatever.

Additional comments:

The member number is a good idea, unless you forget to write it down, like I did the first time. Oy vey, what a hassle.
