Phones Donated for Disaster Relief Efforts
VoiceStream has donated over phones and airtime to assist law enforcement
and emergency service organizations involved in recovery efforts and has
established a Disaster Relief Phone Program to continue to provide
assistance.  VoiceStream representatives have done an excellent job
coordinating these efforts and identifying these critical needs in their
communities.
Message from Ron Sommer, CEO, Deutsche Telekom
The leadership of DT has expressed great concern and regard for all of our
employees and families.  Please see the message below from Ron Sommer which
was sent to DT employees around the world:
The images we have been receiving from the USA reflect clearly, for all of
us, a most horrible nightmare. Never before in times of peace has a tragedy
like this befallen civilized humanity. These events have left me profoundly
shaken and I mourn both for the innocent victims and sympathize deeply with
their families and friends.  After these events, the world will never be the
same.  Deutsche Telekom holds a great affinity for the people in the U.S.,
and on behalf of all employees, I would like to convey my heartfelt sorrow
over this dreadful tragedy.  Today's events have demonstrated that, despite
all of humanity's progress, a worldwide climate which embraces tolerance and
understanding still evades us. This is - and will remain - a challenging yet
essential task for both our and our children's generations.  I would kindly
appeal to you to hold a one-minute silence in prayer for the innocent
victims who have lost their lives in this tragedy.  During this painful
period, our colleagues within the US are very much in our thoughts, our
hearts and our minds.
Our service
Our network continues to operate, despite difficulties associated with
electrical power and landline telephone outages on Tuesday.  We continue to
bring in additional, temporary cell sites from nearby markets to enhance the
network throughout the New York metro area, specifically in the lower
Manhattan area. There have been extraordinary efforts by  our  coworkers and
we want to particularly commend the outstanding and tireless work by
members of the engineering team in New York/New Jersey that have added
capacity to our network and those that have bravely worked in the restricted
zone around the World Trade Center to ensure quality service.  We are aware
of at least one victim, trapped in a destroyed building that used their
VoiceStream phone to call for help.  We would also like to thank the
Pittsburgh team that erected the first temporary site by any carrier in the
Pittsburgh crash area.  Thanks to everyone on the team that has kept our
essential services operating.  All of our teams in New York, Washington D.C.
and Pittsburgh have showed tremendous ingenuity and worked very hard to
provide crucial emergency service.
You have all heard and seen the news reports of victims and survivors alike
making calls to loved ones and emergency personnel.  This event highlights
the critical nature of our service.  I thank each and every one of you for
your continued efforts to serve our customers and your communities in this
crucial time of need. We are extremely proud of how we have all pulled
together as a team and taken this enormous responsibility so seriously.
On behalf of the entire management team at VoiceStream and Deutsche Telekom,
thank you.
