I will be hosting an informal gathering of AFOLs in the Cleveland, OH area
at my house on Saturday, June 19, 2004.  Anyone in the area at that time is
welcome to come, but I ask that you do please let me know that you are
coming so that I can plan accordingly.

Festivities will begin at 1:00pm and will last until they end.  I will
provide beverages and snacks, anything more can be ordered or picked up and
paid for by those partaking in them.

I will be gearing up for my July 3 public display, so much of that will be
in the process of getting set up at my house.  Feel free to bring any MOCs
that you wish to share with others.  We may even build something with my
assortment of black, blue and yellow parts...

I am soliciting interest from those in the are that might want to
participate in a public display on Sautrday, July 3, 004 in Garfield
Hieghts, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland).  This will be an "all themes"
display, so any and everything is welcome.  It is also a short term display,
with the actual display scheduled from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, with setup starting
as early as necessary but only 2 hours for tear down.

If you are interested in helping out, providing items to display, or just
coming to hang out, please drop me a line.  The display is at an annual
festival that generally draws quite large crowds.  It is open to the public
and is free of charge.  See below for more information.

Thanks,

Troy

-- More detailed information --

Venue:  Garfield Heights Homedays 2004
http://www.garfieldhts.org/homedays/index.htm (not updated yet for this
year!)

This event is held outdoors in a park, but the display will be under one of
the main expo tents:
http://www.tcphoto.net/photos/2004/lego/display/ghhd2003-communitytent-013.jpg

These tents are 80'x60' so there is plenty of space.  There will be a stage
(can't use), a dancefloor (can use) and seating provided.

Last year in this time-slot there was an "N" scale train display:
http://www.tcphoto.net/photos/2004/lego/display/IMG_8038.jpg

What is planned:

Currently planned is a small train layout and a Castle themed display.
Additional themes will be supported as participants join up and ask for
them.

To this end, I recently purchased some nifty folding tables that are the
appropriate size (30" x 60") for Lego baseplates:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=76289

Additional standard 8' banquet tables will be available on-site if needed.

I have built an outer castle wall with towers and gate:
http://www.tcphoto.net/photos/2004/lego/display/Castle01.jpg
http://www.tcphoto.net/photos/2004/lego/display/Castle02.jpg

There is enough to encompass two tables.  All we need is smething to put
inside the walls!  ;)

For the trains, I would like to see atleast 8 tables, but that might be
pushing it given my train supplies and setup contraints.  I am currently
working on a large-scale skyscraper for this.  Additional help will be
needed to make this work out well.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask them ehre or contact me
directly.

I've been asked if I could organize a "Lego Display" for a local festival
whose planning committee I am on.  The festival runs over the 4th of July
weekend, and the display is currently sceduled for Saturday, July 3, 2004.
Approximate timeframe would be 1:00pm to 5:00pm, with plenty of time to set
up before, but only a short period to tear down after.

This would not be a theme specific display, more of a bring whatever is cool
type of thing.  It need not be trains or town, but could be space, castle,
sculpture, or whatever.

Before committing to this, I'd like to know if there are any people actually
available and willing to do something like this over the holiday weekend?

The event is located in Garfield Heights, OH, an inner-ring suburb of
Cleveland.  It's an outdoor festival, but the display would be under one of
the main entertainment tents.

If there is a large response, I may be able to extend the display time, but
we'd worry about that when it happens.

Thanks,

Troy

I'm not in Akron per se, but it's closer to me than Cleveland.

Well, us Cleveland BLOC guys don't live all that close together • either.  Troy
(Garfield Heights) is about 30 min south of me (Cleveland Heights), and • Adrian
(Westlake) is about 30 min west of me.  We haven't really gotten • together in
more than a year, but hopefully we can arrange something at some point.

Bram, Mike, Troy, et al.

Come strengthen us at COLTC!! We're booming, and ar now planning to do
shows all
over Ohio. We'll be in Dayton in 2 weeks, and in December in Toledo (pending,
but very likely). There are tons of Lugs where hlaf of the members drive 2-5
hours to meet (seems more rule than exception actually). Getting from
Cleveland
to Columbus (actaully, we meet mostly in northern suburbs) does not take long,
and traffic is almost never bad. This would also be great for shows near
Cleveland, we could participate in those with a few from Columbus, and you
guys
up there. We have some awesome builders here, in about 10 days, we will do our
first GATS. There is tons of new stuff we wil present. Tallest brick
difference
in the layout will be well over 200 bricks, that's 6 feet and more!! We
started
with 4-5 members in February, now are almost at 20! Not all of us are
townies/trainies, we have alot of Technic/Robo power here too. I'm sure there
will be enough for you guys to talk about during the (rather boring) 2.5 hr.
drive from Cleveland to Columbus. We could also schedule a meeting halfway now
and then. Think about it!

This sounds like fun. Lots of fun! Except for one thing...

I'm not an AFOL yet. :)

What's the cutoff point between KFOL and AFOL?

Originally I was just looking to see whether I was all alone in my
bricksanity. Now it certainly looks like I'm not - and now I have all the
more reason to get that license (no, haven't got it yet, though I'm old
enough) and drive down there (or up there).

Thanks for the positive response. I won't forget either of your groups. :)

~Mike
