Ooo superfortress :-)
A couple of people have expressed their desires for earlier times. IIRC the
last meeting started at 10am. Can the Fukaya Room be booked as early as say
9am? I know it might seem like a long day, but if we quit at 3 (maybe 4 at the
latest) might it be better? BTW, no one has to stay for the whole thing.
That Fukaya room is really good. We've got a door on the outside wall by the
parking lot for walk-ins, and it's a busy library. I'm not sure of anything
that good in Castro Valley or San Leandro, but I'll still look around. San
Leandro's Community Library might have a room.
What about considering some toy stores? Some toy store managers/owners might
do it to ring up an extra sale or two. I think Castro Valley's "Village Toys"
store is too small but I'll check that too.

I know that my preference would be the 7th. I could probably go the 14th,
though if it was early enough, ie, pre-noon. I have plans for the evening of
the 14th.
Of course, I'm just excited to be able to actually go to one this time. The day
will just determine whether I can bring my entire Ninja Superfortress or not.

So far I've heard nothing against August 14. I'm still lobbying for it. But
I'm always saying things. I'd like to hear from more folks.

I don't know how far in advance rooms get typically booked there. But I have
nothing against meeting there in August and in November too.

Just to see if there's something else to pick from, I'll look into finding a
room in Castro Valley. Should we attempt to meet in the Tri-Valley sometime?
Pleasanton maybe?

If I might spin the question another way for folks who live north of SF and
north of Oakland (Bill Katz, David Simmons, etc): where would you propose a
meeting?

Good. Are there any other sorts of free public service venues that anyone
knows about? I called Radio Disney AM1310 and we can get a public service
announcement aired, and I'll write copy for it if no one objects (I used to
make radio commercials for a living).
Would anyone object if I wrote up a press release that we could send out if
needed? Wherever we meet, should we consider sending releases to any of the
area's schools? If more than a coupla folks think a press release is a good
idea, send me quotes from yourselves that I can use in it. Don't make them too
flowery - just say in one or two sentences why you like the club: what you put
in, get out, why you show up, etc. You don't have to be a member to submit a
quote, you just have to have been to one. If I get too many I might have to
edit or not include some, but I'd rather have more than enough. Also you could
send more than one set of sentences. Deadline is 7/25. Send those quotes to
the spam-inhibited radiotitan@yaNOSPAMhoo.com with a subject of "Press Release
Quote".

Two hours is good, and I'd like some feedback about our website and how folks
feel it should/n't look and behave. I'll try and remember to bring a tape
recorder rather than write notes. I don't want to take tons of time away from
trading etc., but our site is an effective full-time communicator in
expressing the purposes and personality of the club so it shouldn't be
overlooked.

Well, we have two proposed dates, both on Saturday:
August 14, or August 7.
I can make either date . Who wants to choose?)
I've seen a couple requests for returning to Fremont, if the
Fukaya Room at the main library is available. (I haven't checked,
but I will look for the contact info.)
Are there any other venues to consider? Does anyone in another
city want to take a crack at planning the event in a city closer
to their home? :-)
If the room in Fremont is available, should we try to reserve
it now, or wait (how long) for discussion?
I'd prefer the November meeting to be in Fremont, since I want
to drag my train tables to the meeting. (I'd rather not have to
take them on the freeway on their first adventure in the back of
the pickup truck! ;-) If the November meeting were to be held
in Fremont, would that change folks amind about where we should
meet in August?
When we pick the date, and have a room set up, I'll post that
info on the BayLUG home page, and the BayInsider page. If we'll
be in Fremont, I'll also alert our contact at The Argus, to see
if we can get some pre-meeting press. :-)
I'll presume that we want a 2-hour members-only session for show
and tell plus trading and selling, and 'public' portion after that.
I've got a couple things to discuss with the membership. Does anyone
else have any agenda items for the August meeting?

I'd like to change my vote to Aug 14 cuz there stands a chance I might be away
that weekend. I know Mark Benz has said that the 14th was better for him too.
Is the Fukaya Room still open on that date?

Well, it took a bit of work, but we have a couple of basic pages
on http://people.bayinsider.com/baylug, but I can't load it with
Internet exploder 5.x (however, Netscape works fine). Let me know
what you think of the pages.
So, I can't explain the failure, since I'm using really basic HTML.
I'll try to troubleshoot this, but any ideas or leads would be welcomed.
Hopefully, this will help us generate a better turnout at our next
get-together. The date August 7 has been suggested...anyone else have
a date to suggest? :-)

Well, the grab bags have come together, and I hope people like them! This
time the $10 bag features about $18-worth of LEGO -- about a 45% discount off
MSRP! In addition, these bags will have:
-- 4 or 5 minifigs per bag,
-- green, tan, grey, dark grey, and orange pieces,
-- pieces from Castle, Space, Adventurers, Wild West, and ..
-- ... a little bit of Star Wars too!
I hope people like them.
I have just a couple of unclaimed ones, so first-come-first-served on
Saturday for the remaining bags!
And as always, these are all new pieces from sets I bought on discount. I
haven't cherry-picked the pieces, and I'm not making any money off of this.
Just doing it for the fun and for the LEGOFest!
See you on Saturday!

I'll be bringing a bunch of track, and a few switch/points, as
well as a few engines and rolling stock. Others are welcome (and
encouraged ;-) to bring their cars to run as well!
In addition, I'm planning to bring a VHS video player, and show
the videotape I took at the LEGOLAND Carlsbad Grand Opening, and
at the LEGOfest in Carlsbad that same night, plus a couple other
LEGO-related tapes. (Again, other folks are encouraged to bring
any LEGO-related VHS tapes that they want to show, and we'll just
rotate the tapes through the player.
We're hoping to have finalized the club membership plans by the
time we meet next weekend, so folks can sign up at the gathering.
If you are interested in becoming a member, please get your name
to Russell Clark ("russellc" at baylug.org) soon, so he can make
a name badge for you and bring it to the meeting.
I look forward to seeing folks at the get-together. :-)

Hello!
I am beginning the planning for the grab bags, and so I need to get a good
count of how many to make. People seemed to like the $10 bags last time, so
I'll stick with those. Please email if you would like any bags, and how many
you want. Please only email if you are serious, because I need to take the
responses as commitments to buy!
Because of the logistics of buying the pieces and putting the bags together,
I need to know ASAP, so please email today if you're interested!

I do have to thank Raymond for the great job he did last time. I like what he
selected sight unseen even though I was not at the last meeting. While I like
the idea of Grab Bags, I don't want this to be a burden to anyone either.
I don't have any ideas for this but maybe collectively we could think of
something. Could there be a way to distribute pieces the day of the event
other than by grab bags? I still like the idea though of getting pieces sight
unseen to promote conversation and trading.
I'm not sure if there is a better way. It's just that it would seem kinda cool
to be able to just put to separate pieces into a few boxes the day of event as
people bring in their Grab Bag sets, and then pass the pieces back out randomly
somehow.
Any thoughts?

Well, I may regret saying this, but since I've been the grab bag guy for the
last two meetings, I'll go ahead and volunteer again.
I haven't had a chance to build up a good reserve of clearance stuff since
the last meeting, so if anyone has any clearance stuff that they'd like to sell
to the grab bag effort, be sure to contact me!

TERMS OF USE FOR LUGNET.COM
OVERVIEW AND DEFINITIONS
lugnet.com ("LUGNET") is a privately owned Internet site designed
and run primarily for the benefit of those who enjoy building with,
discussing, collecting, buying & selling, trading, and exchanging
information about LEGO® brand toys.
As a user of this site, you are expected to read, understand, and
abide by the Terms of Use as set forth herein. If a portion is
unclear to you, you should ask a parent or guardian to explain, or
write to terms@lugnet.com for clarification.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS OF USE
By using LUGNET, you agree to the following:
1. You understand that LUGNET is an unofficial fan-created Internet
site which is not prepared, sponsored, authorized, or endorsed by
the LEGO Group of companies and that the Official LEGO World Wide
Web Site is located at www.lego.com.
2. Although this site normally operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per

necessarily suitable to every purpose.
4. LUGNET and its owners and/or operators do not control or censor

5. You will not hold LUGNET or its creators, owners, operators,

8. You understand that LUGNET owners or operators are regular LEGO

9. You understand that LUGNET and its owners and/or operators have
no obligation to acknowledge, mediate, or otherwise settle any
disputes or differences of opinion which may arise between users.
Although we hope that everyone can play well together, we must
reserve the right to allow or to refuse access to this site to
anyone, for any reason, with or without prior warning or explanation.
Additional terms and conditions appear below.
DISCUSSION GROUP TERMS AND CONDITIONS
LUGNET includes discussion groups which allow feedback and
interaction between users. LUGNET and its owners and/or operators
do not control or censor messages, information, or files delivered
to discussion groups. It is a condition of your use of the
discussion groups that you do not:
1. Restrict or inhibit any other user from using the discussion
groups.
2. Falsely present yourself as a representative, employee, or
official of a LEGO company or of LUGNET through the accidental or
deliberate use of trademarks or servicemarks in your identity or
through misleading or confusing statements in your postings.
3. Post anonymously or post any message in which the 'From:' header
is not an e-mail address under your control. (Spamblocks are OK,
however, so long as it is possible for a reasonably intelligent
human to reconstruct your e-mail address using clearly documented
instructions, which you must include in each such message.)
4. Post using a pseudonym, alias, screen-name, handle, alter-ego,
meno, or any other type of name which is not your own or which
hides your true identity, unless your real name and identity is
clearly understood, accepted, and documented by the community as
the true identity behind such messages.
5. Post or transmit any unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous,
defamatory, obscene, vulgar, pornographic, profane, or indecent
information of any kind, including without limitation any
transmissions constituting or encouraging conduct that would
constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or
otherwise violate any local, state, national, or international
law.
6. Post or transmit any information, software, or other material
which violates or infringes upon the rights of others, including
material which is an invasion of privacy or publicity rights or
which is protected by copyright, trademark, or other proprietary
right, or derivative works with respect thereto, without first
obtaining permission from the owner or right holder.
7. Post or transmit any information, software or other material
which contains a virus or other harmful component.
8. Post non-plain-text content such as HTML, multi-part MIME
messages, or so-called "binaries" including but not limited to:
images, sounds, multimedia files, computer programs, and blocks
of text created using binary-to-text conversion utilities such
as BinHex, uuencode, btoa, and PGP message encryptions (short
PGP signatures, however, are permitted by the server).
9. Post information or material for commercial purposes which is not
reasonably related to LEGO toys or which contains advertising
which is not reasonably related to LEGO toys.
10. Post or re-post a message excessively, especially unsolicited
advertisements, even if they are directly or indirectly related
to LEGO toys.
11. Post auction announcements, updates, or listings in discussion
groups which do not explicitly welcome their presence.
12. Stray hopelessly off-topic without moving the discussion to a
more appropriate location. (There is a fair amount of leeway
here, since it is natural for discussions to drift, and moving
a discussion can sometimes be inconvenient or difficult. If in
doubt, appeal to common sense.)
13. Cross-post excessively, since many newsreader software programs
do not handle cross-posted articles elegantly or transparently.
LUGNET, its owners, and its operators have no obligation to monitor
the discussion groups. However, LUGNET and its owners and/or
operators reserve the right at all times to disclose any information
as necessary to satisfy any law, regulation, or governmental request,
or to edit, refuse to post, or to remove any information or
materials, in whole or in part, that in the sole discretion of LUGNET
and its owners and/or operators are in violation of these terms and
conditions or of applicable law.
If you choose to use any mark owned by the LEGO Group as part of your
identity, you do so at your own risk. LUGNET can neither advise you
nor protect you if you infringe on the rights of the LEGO Group.
However, there are some common-sense guidelines which you must follow
as additional conditions of your use of the LUGNET discussion groups:
14. If you use a LEGO mark as part of your identity, and you are not
an employee or representative of the LEGO Group, you must include
an appropriate disclaimer in each post you make, noting (a) that
you are not associated in any way with the LEGO Group and that
your posts are unofficial and do not represent the views,
opinions, or policies of the LEGO Group, and (b) that the mark
or marks you are using are owned by the LEGO Group.
15. If you are an employee or representative of the LEGO Group, and
you wish to post as such, you must clearly indicate your title,
position, or relationship with or within the LEGO Group. Your
employer may also require you to include a disclaimer protecting
them from your personal opinions.
16. If you are an employee or representative of the LEGO Group, but
you wish to post on your own behalf as an independent LEGO
enthusiast and not as an employee or representative, you are not
required by LUGNET to disclose your affiliation. However, your
employer may have its own ideas about your participation; if in
doubt, consult your employer for appropriate posting guidelines.
The foregoing is not legal advice, and LUGNET and its owners cannot
guarantee that it is a bullet-proof formula for avoiding the dilution
or infringement of marks owned by the LEGO Group or for circumventing
rules which your employer may impose upon you. Questions on the
nature of trademarks or servicemarks should be directed to a
qualified legal professional. If in doubt, it is probably wisest
simply to avoid the use of LEGO trademarks as part of your personal
identity.
