Commission seeks artists to design librarys space
VISUAL ARTS: The San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture is sending out a
call for an artist or artist team to design a new educational space at the Serra
Mesa-Kearny Mesa Branch Library. Its purpose will be to benefit children ages
0-5 and their parents.
An artist-led team for this project can be multidisciplinary, meaning it can
include architects, landscape architects or others from relevant fields. The
qualifications also say that the chosen artist or artists will need to
collaborate with an expert from one among several fields related to education or
social services. (Among those listed are child education, child development and
mental-health care.)
The new library branch itself is scheduled to open at 9005 Aero Drive in July.
This educational space will be part of a second phase of construction.
Applications which consist of a request for qualifications, not an actual
proposal must be received by June 7 at 4 p.m. Artists working in any form are
eligible and can locate the needed forms at
www.sandiego.gov/arts-culture/publicart.shtml. Questions about the process can
be addressed to Dana Springs, the commissions public art program administrator,
at (619) 533-3051 or at dsprings@sandiego.gov.

Ive been asked by a local Science Fiction/gaming convention to organize a
LEGO room for the con. Sort of a mini LEGO convention. The Convention is
Condor XIII http://www.condorcon.org/html/mainmenu.html March 3rd-5th.
Just over a month from now.
Therell be several LEGO themed activities.
An open building contest. A random assortment of LEGO will be on hand, but
we can always use more. This is similar to the Jr Master builders contest at
LL, but no size limets. Prizes awarded.
Model and MOC displays. Any theme, but SF and Fantasy encouraged. And
prizes for the MOCs. Additional SF related models will be on hand for those
that want to build.
|
One of the prizes will be the snack sized version of Serenity:
http://www.reasonablyclever.com/lego/serenity/index.htm.
|
LEGO Gaming. Brickwars and Pirates throughout the weekend. Materials for
bothe games will be provided, but you are welcome to bring items of your own.
|
Were still on track for this. Well have gaming most of the day Saturday and
Sunday, and possibly some Friday night.
|
LEGO train display. Ill be running a loop of track around the perimeter of
the room, and bringing some train stock. You are welcome to run my trains or
bring some of your own.
I understand that Friday may be difficult for some people, but well be going
all 3 days, with events schedualed based on feedback from all of you. If
theres a specific event that you are most interested in, let me know what
day(s) you can make it to the con. Id like to have the MOC and building
contest judging on Sunday if possible. You do not need to to be present to
win. Im also willing to transport MOCs back to thier owners on Sunday or
Monday, if they are in the SD area.
|
MOC display and contest build will start on Friday, and people are welcome to
build and bring MOCs anytime durring the convention.
|
The room will be be open to all of the convention attendees, and itll be
shared with a SF costume and prop display, but its a large room, so it
shouldnt be a problem. Myself or another AFOL will be on hand at all times
that the room is unlocked to keep an eye on things. The costume/prop display
is mainly Stargate SG1, but will also have other items, includeing a replica
R2-D2 and C-3PO.
|
Saturday evenig the room will be off limets to building and gaming from 5 to 7PM
for a Stargate event.
|
Feel free to pass this forward.

This should be a lot of fun.
Especially since Mat has asked me to organize the gaming function of our little
event.
Consider this a request for suggestions, comments, etc. on running games at a
Con. This will be my first time at GMing at a Con, so I could probably use some
help planning, preparing, and running it. If people have worksheet files etc
that would help too.
Hope some of you can attend. There will be minifig death and destruction!
