Benjamin,

I believe (and I'm only 95% sure on this one) that the ONLY
sets that had the
1x1 white numbers and letters were the parts packs (planpacks
in UK).  The
numbers are (letters/numbers)  234/237(late 50's-early 60's),
487/488 (mid 60's)
, 987/988 (late 60's - early 70's).  Even though you only
have one of each, I
still think they are from some(one's) parts packs.  The only
named items that
were in basic and specialty sets of the era were the named
beams (1x6 and 1x8 in
white).

Actually, the 315 Taxi from 1965 had 'O' and '3' bricks on the front as
well...Any chance that this is a variation of that set? [I tried building
it, and came up about 3 parts short...]

Also, there's the 1x2 bricks with 'LEGO' that were used on top of the
steering columns in the trucks as well. [eg 336, 337, etc] Then there's the
trains. 122 has a metallic '122' on 2 2x3 black bricks [I can't remember the
colour [gold/silver]]

The interesting thing about the parts was that although some pieces had been
damaged [general playwear, but a few almost fataly], the
instructions/catalogue and printed parts were in good condition...It hardly
looked like the printed parts had been used. This leads me to think that if
any parts are missing, it's probably only a very small number, and the parts
are probably 1x2 or smaller [and maybe plates].

Another item that is strange is the relatively few small
plates you have.  The
large white plates were in a lot of early sets, but the small
plates were only
in specialized sets of that era and in the parts packs.  The
basic sets did not
contain them in the mid 1960's.  It could be that all of
these small plates were
from one specialized (non-basic) set.

One person (in the UK) who might have a lot of info on the
700/ sets is Phil
Traviss.  He is a wealth of knowledge on the UK 1960's sets.

Benjamin,

When there are very few specialty parts (like in the 60's and
early 70's), it
becomes very difficult to determine what sets you have.  The
one thing that
strikes me is the 20 macaroni bricks.  They are from the
parts pack (#224) or
possibly (#424) if it is a UK parts pack.  There are 20
bricks in the macaroni
brick parts pack (except for the Samsonite ones).  The 1x2
white brick with the
notch at the bottom is from the lighting parts pack #245.
From the sound of the
lack of Cellulose Acetate bricks, and the large number of 1x1
rounds without the
tapered base, I would say that a lot of these parts are from
about 1964-67.  So
you are talking the last half of the 1960's.  The blue train
tracks (150, 151)
confirm this.  Based on the number of red/white bricks, and
red classic windows,
I would guess that you have several basic sets (010, 020,
030, 040, etc.), but
since these sets don't have specialty parts, it is very
difficult to determine
what basic sets you have.
