Peter Curby and his mother Frances are running a large Lego exhibition up in
Nambour, as a fundraiser for the SES cadets.

It will be held at the Nambour Central Mall (near the IGA supermarket) from 22
June to 7 July (Monday to Saturday, not Sunday) from 9am to 4.30pm.

A number of BUGS have expressed interest in making a field trip to see Peter's
display, and a preliminary survey suggests Saturday 22 June might be a good
day to go. The Train Heads among us have suggested we could go by train (but
obviously others using other modes of transport could rendezvous with us in
Nambour). The return fare (special weekend rate) is $10.80 return for adults.

Trains leave Central at 8:01am, 9:38am, 12:08pm for Nambour, and the return
trip leaves Nambour at either 3:04pm or 5:40pm. The journey takes 1 hour 45
mins to 2 hours, depending on whether you have to change trains in Caboolture.
Personally I have a dinner engagement that night, so for me, the best option
would be the 9:38am train up to Nambour, and then the 3:04pm back. That would
give us about 4 hours in Nambour to have some lunch and check out the train
show. How does that sound?

For more info on rail timetables, see:

http://www.transinfo.qld.gov.au/Timetables.htm and click the "Rail" link.

If you're interested in coming along on that day, please post or email me with
your preferred time frames and whether you are planning to go by train or not.

If the date doesn't work for you, please post. It may be that there are others
who would like to join with you on a different date.

If anyone wants more info about the show itself, Peter's leaflet gives this
number to call 0405 436 216. Admission is a gold coin donation.

If anyone decides to drive, my place is only a short detour on the Sunshine
Coast leg of the journey. If you want to come and see my Lego and stuff on
the way (not that theres much more than what was at the meet) and give me a
lift up, give us a yell at zac_soden@hotmail.com

I would like to go up to the show, either by train or by car (with others).
So please tell what is happening.

Well, in the absence of someone suggesting any other plan, I assume that the
plan is:

Sat 22 June on the train that departs Central at 9:38am, returning on the
train that departs Nambour 3:04pm. The train trip takes about two hours, so if
you are not coming by train, I suggest you get the mobile number of someone
who is and we'll use mobiles to rendezvous in Nambour.

For those going on the train, please note that, although I described the train
as departing from Central at 9:38am, the train actually originated at Ipswich
at 8:40am, so if you live anywhere between Ipswich and Central (as I do), you
can join the train earlier. Here are the relevant timetables:

Peter Curby and his mother Frances are running a large Lego exhibition up in
Nambour, as a fundraiser for the SES cadets.

It will be held at the Nambour Central Mall  from 22
June to 7 July (Monday to Saturday, not Sunday) from 9am to 4.30pm.

If anyone wants more info about the show itself, Peter's leaflet gives this
number to call 0405 436 216. Admission is a gold coin donation.

Well, the BUGs went to Nambour today to see the display. We took the train
which turned out to be quite convenient as the shopping centre with the display
is only  a couple of blocks away, and the weekend special price meant we paid
between about $10-$12 each for a return ticket (depending on exact point of
departure) so it was quite economically and nice to relax and enjoy the scenery
instead of worrying about the traffic.

Peter certainly has a mindbogglingly large collection and we are told it wasn't
all on display. There were both Lego sets and lots of MOCs on display. The
display has organised around themes (not surprisingly, as you would hard expect
to see a medieval knight on a Paradisa beach). From memory the themed areas
were (mentally walking around the room): Castle, a very large Town and Train
area (including a billboard saying BUGS) which included a monorail that seemed
to go forever, a very comprehensive collection of Paradisa, Pirates and
Islanders, Dino Island, Adventurers-in-the-jungle (what's that theme called?),
Egyptian, a large air/space field (contemporary), Belville, large Technics
sets, Bionicles, Ice Planet, Star Wars, Model Team, [something I can't
remember], and Ninja. There were also posters and other memorabilia, as well as
albums of printed material and photos etc. So there was plenty to see, and
Peter and family made us all very welcome (especially the BUGS sign). Oh, and
there is a play area with Lego for the kids as well, although we resisted the
temptation!

The only disappointing thing was that there wasn't a bigger audience to see it
(especially as it's a fundraiser for SES cadets). Still, it was only the first
day of the display so hopefully word will get around and more people will get
in and see it. So, if you are in or around Brisbane over the next couple of
weeks, make sure you go to Nambour and check out Peter's display! It's
definitely worth the trip!

Hi all,

today I went to see the Nambour expo.  There sure was a hellova lotta lego
there!  I'm very jealous of the castle and pirates lego that was on display :).

Peter was very nice and welcomed me with an invitation to go "behind the
scenes" which I couldn't resist.  So I'd like to say thank you Peter for
putting up the display, I had a wonderful time (only wish I could have
played brickwars with the castle though :P)

-Stephen Hurn

PS, I have been meaning to put up some pictures of recent MOCs, including
the Starfury Mk II pics that I promised a week or two ago.
