Oct 18, 2001:
Ground has been broken, and Chapter Zero of the Davinskeep project is under construction. Look here for project updates (but don’t expect the actual chapters until around Christmas)

Nov 08, 2001:
Ground is expensive. The bedrock (3/4” pine) is in place, and the ground (6 bricks elevation) is mostly ready. I’m picking up the topsoil and grass tomorrow (75 green baseplates), which is the expensive part.

Nov 14, 2001:
The ground is ready, and the grass is about 95% done. The remaining 5% is the aesthetic placement of a river. Tonight, there will be trees, and Chapter Zero will be ready for photography.

Nov 15, 2001:
OK, I lied. :) I got distracted by making some elevation changes for variety, and I haven’t started adding trees. The river is very aesthetic, though. :) It’s a moot point anyway, becuause the camera isn’t back from on loan yet.

Nov 16, 2001:
The camera came back last night, and the elevation changes were completed. Now to provide a nice aesthetic forest that can be chopped down to make room later. :)

Nov 16, 2001: (take 2)
GWAH! IBTH! JEBHEFNUGH! (pant pant pant!) Sorry, I can’t be coherent right now:
we want....a shrubbery! one that looks nice... and not too expensive

My, my... word does travel fast, it seems. But yes, it is true. In the next round of bulk items, we will bring you... shrubbery. Well ok, bushes, if you want to be picky about it. And trees, too; lots of trees. Cypress trees (Merry Christmas, (...) (23 years ago, 16-Nov-01, to lugnet.lego.direct) !!
I think the forest might grow some...

Nov 19, 2001:
I’ve calmed down somewhat, but Chapter Zero is being suspended until I get some more trees. Aside from the appeal of more variety, I’ve discovered I just don’t have enough right now. I want to be able to cover around 1/4 of the surface area, which will take about 2-3 times as many as I’ve got now.

Dec 2, 2001:
Trees have been ordered, and (part) shipped, so half of the forest will be here any day now. The other half will ship when cypress trees come off back-order. In the meantime, construction is starting on Chapter 1.

Dec 4, 2001:
The first batch of trees has arrived, and the forest is about 1/2 done. When the cypress & fruit trees arrive, they’ll thicken it up, because it’s a bit sparse right now.

Feb 04, 2003:
Wow, I’m behind on updates. That’s probably because I had to disassemble the project early last year for a train show. :( It’s still on my list of “things to do someday”, but someday isn’t looking soon...
