I have once again updated my castle pages.  This must be getting tiresome for
some of you :-) I have been doing this a lot lately.

First an most exciting I have added a new "Generic Building" to my site.  This
really looks more like an upper middle class home.  I realise there was a very
limited middle class in the middle ages but this is also a bit of a fantasy so
I can do whatever I like.

It is becoming more and more obvious that I am running out of key colors but I
am much happier than I thought I was going to be when I started this house.

http://www.nelug.org/members/kingsley/castle/obuild2/

Second I have added 2 new Market shops to my Market.  You can see these at the
bottom of my market page.  I don't know what is going to be sold in these shops
yet so for now the shelves are bare.

http://www.nelug.org/members/kingsley/castle/market/

Third, I would generally not show another peasant building but I just wanted to
highlight the fake door design used here (Yes I stole this from Dave E. too).
Basically this is a layer of plates covered with tiles that are attached at a
90 degree angle to the building in back using technic beams and 1/2 pegs with
stud.

Of course this prevents me from doing the interior but these houses are
basically filler anyway.

http://www.nelug.org/members/kingsley/castle/house3/

Fourth,  I added one picture of the new roof I put on the lookout tower on my
City gate.  I like this design much better although it is still not perfect.
The picture is at the bottom of this page and is not of the best quality
because it came out dark and I had to brighten it considerably.

http://www.nelug.org/members/kingsley/castle/citywall/

Lastly,  I added a couple of pic's to my "City View" page.  The city is
starting to hang of the edges of our dining room table so I am going to have to
find a new location soon.  Once again the new pics are at the bottom of the
page.

Not at all! On the contarary, I love to see your work.

I like it a lot! The grey-blue combination works great and I love the windows
(not gabled, um, whatstheirname) on the roof.

Second I have added 2 new Market shops to my Market.  You can see these at the

I hope someone rents them soon! Put up a sign... :-)

Cool! I haven't seen Dave use this but I think you talked about that and I
wasn't paying attention... It looks awesome, realistic indeed.

You can always make the roof removable so that interior is possible...

Fourth,  I added one picture of the new roof I put on the lookout tower on my
City gate.  I like this design much better although it is still not perfect.

Wow, that's really big. I'm green with envy... oh well, my inn is coming to a
nice start and other building will eventually join... I hope!

As usual, great creations!

It has a very solid look to it.  I like it.  I like the way you put the gray

The fruit baskets look neat.  I may steal this idea for a (town-based)

I know how the real estate problem goes.  I now have 1/2 of a secondary
bedroom taken up with my layout. I'm saving for a bigger house!

Keep building!

Very nice.  The gray and blue go very well together.  I've got a few new

Nice touch! I couldn't make it out from the photos but if I understand
correctly the door is offset half a stud?  I've borrowed a similar technic from
other members of PNLTC for the look of passenger train car doors when lacking
regular train doors, using the 1x2 tiles w/ center stud, if you'd like a pic
I'll have to see if I can find one.  I decided to use this for the walls of
some of my buildings, giving them a nice "timbered" look.

Fourth,  I added one picture of the new roof I put on the lookout tower on my

I've been battling a similar problem with a roof of a interior building in my
castle. Using steep slopes made it entirely too tall but a combination of low
and steep sure helps a lot.
I love your modular wall design, I will definitely have to borrow some of your
ideas when I get to building mine.

Well that is a good question.  Space is becoming a bit of an issue although I
just got 36 16x32 Tan Baseplates and 4 16x32 Tan Baseplates in trades so that
is pretty big.  I like everything in my setup to be LEGO and that includes the
ground which is why I am getting so many Baseplates.  One option for me is to
set up some shelves in my basement to display my models and then just set up
the whole city for special occasions.

What I really want to do for the center-piece of the city is a large DkGray
keep.  Of course I don't have much in the way of DkGray bricks at the moment
but I am hopeing LEGO Direct will come through for me.

I would also like to build several more wall sections although that is a lot of
X-wings just to build the wall.  (The X-Wing is the only set with Gray Inside
Corners (2)) and each wall section requires 4 inside corners (or Gable
Connectors).

For the immediate future I will keep building small buildings as supplies
permit.  I would like to build a detached stable for the Inn which will require
another large purchase of Red slopes but that is a possibility.

So for now I have no real thoughts on overall size but for the time being it
just depends on my current supply of parts and how I can get more parts that I
need either through trade or a good deal.

You know I had thought about that but after thinking about if for a while I
decided I liked the randomness that it gave the home.  I might try lineing them
up anyway but I am still happy with the way it looks.

I agree, I like the updates, when I start my next thing I might do it
the same as Shiri is doing.. post pictures along the way to get
feedback. That way something I can't think of someone else will and I'm
sure the end product would be better!
And I've loved watching the Village grow, even though I'm jealous!
though I did find a bunch of Oasis Ambush sets at one store that I've

Or, you could just buy some sets and build them for real!!! sometimes
it's more fun to play with the parts if you aren't familar with them.
You can really see what they are capable of.. I'll usually only Ldraw
sets I've already built, That way I know they can really be built if
someone would want to..

I also like what Shiri is doing.  I wish I could get myself to do the same.  My
problem is when I get going on something I kind of get into a zone and just
can't stop building to take a few shots and upload them.  Actually I
occasionally get into such a zone that everything else in the world seems to be
tuned out (which is why I love it) and don't even think to take a pic.

My current creation is actually a stable for my Inn.  So the look and feel
match that of the Inn for the most part and there are rooms for the help and
second class rooms on the second floor.  Unfortunately the second floor is
built mostly of 2xX bricks because all I have left at 1x1, 1x2, and 1x3 gray
bricks and even those are in short supply.  So in time I will be reworking the
second floor to replace the 2xX bricks with 1xX bricks.  The roof is also
eating up the last of my red 45 degree slopes.  I am down to just 2x2 and 1x2
slopes in red although I think I am going to just make it.  I have also used
the last of my 1x4x3 windows.  So it looks like I will be placing an order with
S@H soon to replenish supplies (anyone need red 1x4x5 doors).

I will have limited access to my camera, computer, and LEGO for the next couple
of weeks so I don't know if I will get to post pics before April but when I get
the chance you all will be the first to know.

I knew about hinges, but the friction peg/beam was  a new one to me.
Waitaminnit!  Just stick 'em on?  Isn't that cheating?

I appreciate the feedback and will probably wind up just placing them on top
like Eric does.  I never woulda' thunk it.

C'mon, join us! The magnet of .castle is too strong to resist! C'mon!

Actually, my first castle set was the Knight's Procession (I"m too lazy to
look up the number right now.)  Then, later, I sent in a questionaire and
received a black knight with a maroon/mustard checkerboard emblem on his
chest as my consolation prize, er, free gift.  I've always admired them, but
never saw any of them in the stores.  Then came the dark ages....

A castle village would take up much less space, though, than my thoughts on
a full-blown town.  There is the matter of the castle walls, grey bricks,
knights, etc....

I am curious, though, if anybody has created a Ninja themed village?

Oh no!  Now I've suscribed to lugnet.castle!  When will it end?}

I have been working on an Asian style fishing village to compliment my Ninja
fortess project...I am designing my dwellings along a dock at the rear of my
fortress...I have been deriving inspiration from the other village pics
thathave been discussed here...

I am encountering the usual issues involving scarcity of plates and
slopes...I am trying to be creative in using up much of my inventory...much
of the dwelling designs are similar to Euorpean style creations like Eric's
and DaveE's...Tudor and Japanese style walls have a general resemblance in
structure....black frames w/ an inner beige or white lath.  The sliding
doors on mine will add a lttle variety...

My vision right now is a raised courtyard, half a dozen small dwellings, a
small storage/warehouse building, a boat-wright, swordsmith/blacksmith and a
merchant franchise (figs from standard castle).

I have a few REAL SMALL canoe style 2-3 man boats based on the 2nd
generation Kabaya Ninja master's boat...I only have a coupe nets though...I
hope to add more by trading...These structures would be part of the dock +
beach at the rear of the fortress instead of being within the walls...

Pics to follow this week...

Eric:

As always, incredible work.

First an most exciting I have added a new "Generic Building" to my site. • This
really looks more like an upper middle class home.  I realise there was a • very
limited middle class in the middle ages but this is also a bit of a • fantasy so
I can do whatever I like.

This house struck me as the house of a wealthy merchant.  Not ostentatious
enough to ruffle the feathers of the nobility, but nice enough to indicate
his preferred status among the commoners.  Depending upon the time period
and location, I think that this house fits in very well with your medieval
town layout.  Keep up the great work.  I always look forward to your
updates.

Tim
