Hey!
Castle World has a new location. I think it's more user friendly, but
comments are always welcome. The old page will be around for a little bit, but
will mostly act as a link.
Check it out at http://web.utk.edu/~pnazarew/castle-world/
Some useful features on the new site:
1) Search Engine
2) Random Image generator
3) More user friendly toolbar and interphase

When I try to click on "The Map" I get a popup for a password required.

Neat! Great work.
+ You've got a nice blend of colours
+ You don't change font every other word
+ You have a consistency through the whole site and that's great.
I've got a few comments and I'll try to be constructive.
* You oughta alter the year to "1 A.L" since you start counting from one,
i.e. "The first
year after Legodomine", "Year number one", "Year one A.L.". Just the same as
your
first year in life is the year when you're 0 years old, still it's year
number one.
* The small white artifacts (dots) on the index images ("Structures",
"Creatures" etc)
could be avoided if you put the brown colour from the background image as
background
colour in PhotoShop and then select that colour as the transparent colour
index in the gif
file when you save it.
* Personally I don't like text wider than 600px (70-80 characters per line)
as you have
in the About page. I would suggest you put the text in a table 450-600px
wide.
Keep it up, I'll be over with a few pictures soon

I removed the map link for the moment, because there isn't much there.
Craig and I will be working on that part in the next few weeks, and until all
the bugs are ironed out, we can't display it (it's a big surpise - wink
wink, nudge, nudge;)

Hmmm ... I always thought of it as some arbitrary number. I guess the way I
see it is that right now it's year number 0, and as time passes, the
years will start to count.

Good idea. I think we might be getting new banners soon though, so I'm not
too worried about these.

Does it not automatically format everything for you? Hmm...

I agree -- if we want to mimic the "real world", we should start with Year
1. (when you count apples, do you start with number 0?)

but _before_ you begin to count, there _are_ 0! actually, if ballads can
be set anywhen, shouldn't our timeline have a 0 pivital date in the middle?
(jeff j's idea, not mine, but i really like it) a timeline bookended with
the "indefinite past" and the indefinite future". our stories can keep going
in either direction without ever leaving the castle genre time-period. the
forward advances would have to be scheduled with our real time. something
like 5 CW years = 1 real world year or such. the past could stretch back
hundreds or thousands of years as balladeers write it.
instead of A.L., though, what about A.B.S.? not only is it what lego
bricks are made from, it could stand for "After Balladeers Started"! tales
from the past could creatively be translated from ancient texts or written
down from oral tradition.(the original balladeers!)
uh... before year 0 though, i'm drawing a blank. B.B.S?
later ~ craig~

Not when viruses and vermin are involved...
And CW has some vermin, definitely... (characters, not balladeers! <grin>)

Right! Stories that occur in the 'past' would have to be placed in the past...
However, in my storyline, the present has to come before Itell about the past,
and I'm sure I'm not the only one...
So, question ahead: will I have a page of my own ballads, in the order I like
them to be? (Which would be seperate from the 'history' page in which ballads
would/would not (?!) be in chronological order)

Um, maybe Before Ballads Written? (BBW)
I dunno...

You're right, year 0 exists before you start counting, but it's called year
1 BL (or 1 BC in the real-world time system).
