Sorry I am not as original as some of you when it comes to naming my creations
so I had to try and put something in the header that would make you come look
at my new Inn.

Seriously I did use a lot of gable ends on the Inn as well as a lot of other
bricks as well.  One point of interest is the fact the I have used 4 of the new
castle wall pieces that many of us have been trying to figure out a use for.
Actually that is how this project started, as an experiment using these pieces.
All that information is on the web page though so please go there and then let
me know what you think.

My, o my ... that is one awesome creation.  Where to start?

1)  The use of the horse covers fits so nicely into the colors of the Inn.
2)  The courtyard - an awesome shot (bird's eye)
3)  The church in the background is very promising (as in ... more to come from
Eric later;)  This also means (correct me if I'm wrong here) that you have plans
on adding on to your city without taking much of it apart ...
4)  Your use of arches is very well thought out.

So far this is very, very promising for a castle scene.  You are doing this one
right Eric!

Oh my, that is one beautiful building!  The colors fit well together, and the
building itself is designed well (as opposed to a simple rectangular building)!

Can't wait to see what's inside... :)

Great model!  Fantastic design!  I love the attention to detail and the
realism of it all.

Except I don't think I see any gables. :)

First thanks to everyone who has commented so far.  I love getting feedback so
thanks.  Other than my misunderstanding of the definition of "gable" things
have gone well so far :-).  I now know what a "gable end" is and for those of
you that commented you are right there are none :-( in my building.  But at
least I know what they are now...

1)  The use of the horse covers fits so nicely into the colors of the Inn.
2)  The courtyard - an awesome shot (bird's eye)

I really like the courtyard.  Courtyards are one of my favorite architectural
features of buildings.  From a LEGO scale they are difficult to photograph
though so I am glad you liked the pictures.

3)  The church in the background is very promising (as in ... more to come
from Eric later;)  This also means (correct me if I'm wrong here) that you
have plans on adding on to your city without taking much of it apart ...

You are correct in that I am trying to build as much for this scene as I can
without disassembling anything.  So far all the medieval structures from my
web-site are still intact.  Part of this is because NELUG is working on a
window display for a local LEGO dealer and part of it is just because I am
starting to love this theme and want to create as big a display as I can before
my wife makes me dismantal it.  Although I think the Inn will be one of the
last building to go.

4)  Your use of arches is very well thought out.

Thanks,  Actually my use of arches has to be well thought out because I just
don't have many gray arches.  Actually almost all of my gray arches are used
between the Church and the Inn so I will have to wait for my recent AucZilla
winnings before incorporating many more into my buildings.  I do have a few in
Black and DkGray so I might just have to come up with a new color scheme.
Either that or Bulls Attack has a fair number of Gray arches so if I can get it
on sale I might have to buy a couple.

So far this is very, very promising for a castle scene.  You are doing this
one right Eric!

Thanks Very Much,

Eric Kingsley

Wow! That's pretty cool, especially considering that it was planned as you went
along. The shape of the structure is really good-- it's not just a plain boxy
thing, it's got that hint of randomness to make it look all the more authentic.
The courtyard is a great touch! Is there an interior as well? And if so, is it
accessible? I think that'd look great in a section of a huge midieval town,
closely surrounded by shops and other houses... Great work!

As far as the interior goes yes and no.  No there currently is not an interior
but yes I plan on finishing the interior.  I kept interior design in my mind
most of the way through construction and I have put in about 1/3 of the floor
for the second story.

As far as being accessible it is accessible.  The building is built in thirds
from front to back and connected with technic pins and beams.  The middle third
and the back third just pull right apart.  For the front third the peek of the
roof has to be removed before they can be separated which is not ideal but it
works.

I think that'd look great in a section of a huge midieval town, closely
surrounded by shops and other houses... Great work!

Thanks a lot,

Good Job Eric!

I love all those gables.  There is something very satisfying about using a lot of
slopes for a profusion of gables in a building.

Great work!

Inn?  Nope!  It's my dream home!  Thanks for doing up the floor plans!  :-,

The atrium (a courtyard enclosed within a house?) is awesome.

Well there are no inverted (upside down) sloped bricks in there.  Everything
you need for a roof like this is in the service pack 5151-Red Steep Sloped
Bricks.

http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=5151-1

You will see you get both inside and outside corners for doing the 90 degree
turns.  One of the more difficult parts to figure out is when one roof peek has
to meet the slope of another roof like on the dormers of my Inn.  To do this
you use the part on the bottom row third from the left to join roofs this way.
If you need to turn a peek 90 degrees then you need to use a combination of
that piece plus the piece to the right of that piece and some regular peeks.

I know this sounds confusing but I would suggest getting a few these service
packs and just experimenting.  Thats what I did and to tell you the truth I did
not really know what I was doing at certain points in the roof and really had
to think to figure out how to make the angles work.  The best thing is to have
the parts in hand and just fool around.  In my experiance that is the best way
to learn.

I can guarentee you that all the parts you need to make a roof like the one on
my Inn are in that service pack.

Are you saying my Inn has big hips! :-)  Say that to the wrong significant
other and there will be hell to pay.  Seriously I did learn the error of my
definition of "gable".  Although in my own defense many people do call the 1x2
3-sided piramid piece a "gable end" and using that definition my roof does have
many although I now know there are no true "gables" on my Inn and yes what I
have are hips and lots of them.  So maybe I need to rename my Inn the "Inn of
many hips".  Or better yet maybe I should get creative and give it a cool name
like some others have named their creations.

~"the inn of many hips"! ~lol!  it sounds like the place where a bunch of
my craigo-lego babes are hanging out! be careful! the "cops" are on patrol,
and may get the wrong idea from that name! the last thing you want is for
the place to get busted by leo's goons!

seriously good work here, eric! i love getting so inspired, but hate not
having quite so many red roof bricks as you do!
