  Re: 3D laser scanning

Hi Reuben & Darell, (...) Yes, they look good. At first sight triangulation has too many triangles for a LDraw file, but it's easy to reduce. (...) I could have a try, but don't expect it so soon... Another problem is that I don't have the real part (...) (13 years ago, 22-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: How to obtain good photographs to make head patterns?

(...) FYI, it's called a "telecentric lens". Wikipedia: (URL) sure these are commonly available to the hobbyist market, though. -Mike (13 years ago, 22-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

  Re: 3D laser scanning

(...) Can any of the experienced part authors confirm whether Darrell's files are suitable for making an LDraw part? From the visuals they look pretty good, but I'm no expert on the details needed to convert this type of model into a real part file. (...)   Re: How to obtain good photographs to make head patterns?

(...) I think that making good photos is the best way. You need a camera with good optical zoom, make your photos directly in front of head, and from a distance to minimize field of view. The photo you get is not very different from a projection on (...) (13 years ago, 21-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: How to obtain good photographs to make head patterns?

(...) Here are some ideas: 1. If you know the exact physical dimensions/characteristics of your digital camera (focal length, aperture, diode size, etc.) I bet you can find a tool or collection of algorithms online that you can use to convert the (...)   How to obtain good photographs to make head patterns?

The technique I've been using to make minifig torsos can be extended to heads, but I have one critical problem that I haven't been able to figure out yet: Before tracing an image, I need an image that is facing the camera head-on. Normally to get a (...) (13 years ago, 19-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: Patterns: Outline or no outline?

(...) My process goes like this: 1) Find a relatively high-quality photo of the part and reorient it so it has the right proportions and faces me head-on. (I also keep the part itself handy for details the photo missed.) 2) Use Inkscape to trace (...) (13 years ago, 18-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: Patterns: Outline or no outline?

(...) Oh dear! That's just my (painstaking) way. I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone if he or she hasn't tons of time to waste. (...) There are: * Quad2Dat of course (URL) LDPattern - the last time I gave it a try I was most impressed (URL) (...) (13 years ago, 18-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Re: Patterns: Outline or no outline?

Hi Lee, I've started looking at the process of creating patterns for parts. I've been reading through Willy Tschager article "Pattern It: (URL) found a copy of Monzoom (Willy's recommended program for manipulating 2D shapes), but as it's in German I (...)   Re: Patterns: Outline or no outline?

(...) The black sections on 973p74 are probably my mistake, since the basis of the pattern (without the Police decorations) was a copy of 973p73. Generally speaking, unless we have evidence the that colour is actually printed, by having the same (...) (13 years ago, 15-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)
