  Re: 3D printers

(...) I'm assuming that you are lightly protesting the (URL) SOLD OUT> status, Dave!? (In service to those unaware of the inside joke) JOHN (12 years ago, 1-Mar-12, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

  Re: 3D printers

(...) I built a Prusa 3D printer. I've had it for about 6 months. (one of the reasons I've been quiet on Lugnet) I have tried to print Lego, and while my success with it was limited, I lay that solely at the feat of not getting the printer fully (...) (12 years ago, 28-Feb-12, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: 3D printers

(...) Agreed. I've seen people print 2x2 bricks, but just for fun. One thing I've considered is to use a reprap to print foundations for hills in a layout, so I only need to use bricks and plates for the visible top layer of the hills. For that (...) (12 years ago, 28-Feb-12, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

  Re: 3D printers

(...) I don't think there's any 3D printing technology available that hits the tolerances needed for functional Lego compatible pieces (I think Lego pieces are manufactured to ±.0006") The resolution on filament fed printers (fused deposition (...) (12 years ago, 27-Feb-12, to lugnet.cad)

  3D printers

I was curious if anyone here has had experience using 3D printers to print Lego compatible pieces. Through an email list, I stumbled across this product: (URL) thought others here might be interested since it uses ABS as the printing material and (...) (12 years ago, 24-Feb-12, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDView and snapshots (Windows 7 64bit)

(...) I have built LDView from scratch in VC++ 2010 on a Win7 (64bit) machine and the resulting executable works like a charm, both in command line (cygwin), and from LPub. Didn't do any changes in the project file, so it must be something with the (...) (12 years ago, 21-Jan-12, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDView and snapshots (Windows 7 64bit)

(...) I'm experiencing similar phenomena on Vista 64-bit. Not sure if it's actually related... I have my own app for generating instructions, which does batch rendering using LDView. I noticed that for rendering images of individual parts, it was (...) (12 years ago, 19-Jan-12, to lugnet.cad)

Re: I want to put .dat files into SolidWorks

Oy, why didn't I think of this before!?!?! There's a SolidWorks-supported website where people upload models for public consumption. I put in a search for "lego" & got 309 hits. This will go a long way towards meeting my needs! (URL) (12 years ago, 22-Nov-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: I want to put .dat files into SolidWorks

(...) Bram- Thank you very much for your explanation. I had only a vague comprehension of this concept, & you helped solidify it. (No pun intended!) Well, 3DWin is *supposed* to be able to take .DAT files & make .IGS files out of them. (URL) haven't (...) (13 years ago, 27-Oct-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: I want to put .dat files into SolidWorks

(...) The modeling strategies for Solidworks and LDraw are fundamentally different: LDraw is based on triangle meshes, and Solidworks is based on constructive solid geometry. Going from CSG to mesh is easy, but going the other way requires some AI (...) (13 years ago, 26-Oct-11, to lugnet.cad)
