Favorite LEGO toys/themes: Trains, Technic

My fascination with LEGO began... with a Technic 8277 set found in a closet, a son who received a Lego set and loved it, a visit to Portland GATS PNLTC display in Feb 2001, and a Target 50%-off sale on 4561s. Click!

I once built... nothing to be proud of (yet).

Someday I will build... a Lego train half as good as those I have seen others display on the net.

LEGO is great because... of the creativity and ingenuity it fosters and rewards.

LEGO fans are great because... they never grow up.

My favorite Non-LEGO Toys: the great outdoors

My favorite Hobbies & Interests: Hiking, Camping, Traveling, Seismology, Vulcanology, Physics, Geology, Astronomy

My favorite Foods: most things that don't contain or resemble bugs

My favorite Music: Rock (excluding Rap), Classical (excluding Opera)

My favorite Pets & Animals: the ones that wander around the forest

Words which best describe me: a Lego late bloomer

I love it when... I am outdoors and I cannot hear a single machine-made sound.

I hate it when... I am outdoors and I cannot hear the outdoors.

I can't seem to get enough... of time with my young boys, of Lego elements, of time to just breath in and appreciate life and the world around me.

I always seem to have enough... taxes to pay.

I hope I always... live in such a wonderful place.

I wish I could... return to my science career without sacrificing most of my income.

I could never... live in a giant metropolis again (but visiting is fun)

I hope I never... forget how to enjoy life.

I wish I hadn't... purchased a certain Lego set on ebay. The price was right, but I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the cigarette smoke smell that absolutely saturated both the elements and the instructions. I still don't know what to do with it; it sits isolated in a ventilated storage area under my basement.

In my craziest moments... (I'll invoke the 5th here)

Believe it or not... I never paid any attention to Lego until my oldest son turned 6 years old and expressed his first real interest and aptitude in building with bricks.

If I were super-human... I would make all people truly responsible and compassionate, preserve our natural resources, eliminate pollution, and of course, I would be capable of manufacturing any Lego element I desired at any time simply by imagining it in my hand.

More & Less:
  • more Time, less Time Passed
  • more Unspoiled Nature, less Urban Sprawl
  • more Knowledge, less Confusion

Rules I try to live by:
  1. Do the right thing
  2. Inspire my sons
  3. Live

Additional comments:

I joined LUGNET fresh after my second inspiring visit to a PNLTC show (Portland GATS 2002). What an awesome display! Kim Toll's amazing contraptions, Matt Chiles' incredible rollercoaster, the rotating train on rotating train track, and some fabulous trains and bridges on display. I was impressed not only by the engineering feats and artistry, but by the friendliness of the creators and the willingness of them to share technical details and techniques.

I thank PNLTC for their wonderful show, and after my last couple of shopping rounds, Lego S@H owes them some thanks as well! No comment from my wife ...
